Miss England told that she's too fat

I honestly believe a woman's desire to be rail-thin has little to do with how men perceive them. Someone must have told Karen Carpenter at some point that there would be a million men willing to knock down her door and touch her in inappropriate places.

I have a theory -- it's similar to those girls who wear revealing clothes yet feel offended when men notice their titties hanging out. It's about self esteem, and wearing sexy clothes makes the woman feel sexier in the company of other women. This is where I believe the issue presents itself. It's not as if they're torturing themselves for the affection of men. Instead, it's so they can feel as pretty as the models on television or their ridiculous magazines. And no amount of telling them they're beautiful is going to change it.

That's sort of circular, though, isn't it? It is about feeling beautiful, pretty, wanted, desired, etc. And thanks to the advertising trends, they're repeatedly told that, in order to be those things, they need to be a size zero.

This thread reminds me of a Tribune article printed earlier in the year that discussed male models. I consider myself skinny at 6'2 180, and here were people my height and thirty pounds lighter. They had absolutely no muscle definition in their arms and looked ghastly. I doubt anyone aside from gay men looked at the type of fashion the models were wearing and thought that's the look they were trying to achieve. It was really an odd sight seeing the other side of modeling. Is being on a continuous diet (I'm guessing they have to be) and living amongst fashion people worth the money? I'd be hesistant, because I know it'd change me for the worse.

Could just be natural body build. Myself, my younger brother and my grandfather are all 6'2" to 6'4" and we all weigh under 170 (at least my grandpa did when he was younger, has a whiskey gut now). I eat 2-3000 calories a day and don't exercise as much as I should (read: I'm lazy and don't burn a lot of calories), but I can't put on weight without consuming a massive amount of calories and lifting daily. My favorite meal is probably a 1/2# bacon cheeseburger with some ice cream for desert. My body fat percentage is just naturally really, really low.

Well, there is your problem, my friend. If you're eating as few as two calories some days, you'll probably remain as skinny as you are.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled serious discussions. :D

In the picture you posted, I'd do her. The one in the article...eh, not so much. Then again, one of my goals in life is to nail an attractive chunky girl.

well yea, the swim suit isnt too hot even to me and i dig larger women. She'd look great in a black one piece.

Karen Carpenter had a disease, as do many females who are that "rail thin". There is a difference between being a size 2 and a size 0 and an even bigger difference in wanting to be thin and being anorexic or bulimic.

I believe a stone is 14 pounds (if I remember Bridget Jones' Diary correctly), so that would put her around 176.

Ah, stones. That makes sense. Again, there is nothing wrong with her. She is a beautiful woman. Give me her over a Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
