maggsmaggs
And if we weren't cheap, we could have the No. 4 prospect in baseball. No offense to Poreda who will be ML ready sooner than Porcello, but I would rather take the risk with his talent than have drafted Poreda. DukeNukeEm
Gordon Beckham is definitely a top 50 prospect, or at least I know Baseball America will have him there.
witesoxfan
Samardzija still seems like all hype. He really was pretty mediocre last year in his 27 innings, as his WHIP was 1.41 and his runs allowed average was 3.90. He seems like a decent setup man rather than a good closer. 103 mph screwball
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 11:12 PM) Gordon Beckham is definitely a top 50 prospect, or at least I know Baseball America will have him there. I like Viciedo as a prospect as well but I don't know if he is considered for the MLB.com list yet. I think the young man is gonna mash the baseball. I don't know where is going to play yet, be I feel pretty confident that he can hit based on what I've read and seen on youtube.

Kalapse
QUOTE (3E8 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:21 AM) Where's Alvarez I assume they left him off since he has yet to play above the college level.

I thought the exact same thing when I noticed Porcello was #4.
3E8
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:25 AM) I assume they left him off since he has yet to play above the college level. Let's hope so. I would also take Alderson over many pitchers on this list after the numbers he put up as a 19 yo in the California League
Ozzie Ball
51-60: * 51. Justin Smoak, 1B, Rangers * 52. Logan Morrison, OF/1B, Marlins * 53. Daniel Cortes, RHP, Royals * 54. Jordan Walden, RHP, Angels * 55. Ivan DeJesus, SS, Dodgers * 56. Aaron Poreda, LHP, White Sox * 57. Brett Cecil, LHP, Blue Jays * 58. J.P. Arencibia, C, Blue Jays * 59. Tim Alderson, RHP, Giants * 60. Aaron Hicks, OF, Twins http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb I think it's a really bad list. RockRaines
HAHAHAHAHAHA. MLB.com is so dumb its comical. Slayer outproduced how many of those "top bats" in the AFL? GTFOOH ESPN. Jeff Samardijisaisaa? Edited December 8, 2008 by RockRaines
Fotop
Man, that list is awful. Granted, pretty much anytime someone does something like this, they open themselves up to criticism but this looked really slapped together. A very subjective process, indeed, but they certainly could have done at least some due diligence.
RockRaines
Fat Brett Wallace who hit roughly 90 points lower than GBecks made that list.
Chisoxfn
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) Gordon Beckham is definitely a top 50 prospect, or at least I know Baseball America will have him there. They missed the boat on Beckham, especially when you see how many of the top picks from this past season they included on the list. I'd say Poreda/Flowers/Viceido are all possibilities for the top 100 with Beckham clearly being a Top 50 prospect. Flowers/Viceido/Poreda all have the ability to climb into the top 50 in time though with Viceido having the potential to one day be a top 10 prospect. He has a really nice live arm with a good sinking fastball.
