scenario
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:01 PM) It's too quiet on the Kenny Williams front. I saw reports that say he didn't get into Vegas until this afternoon. So he and Ozzie, who were scheduled to meet with the media Monday afternoon, pushed it back until Tuesday. fathom
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:08 AM) I'd even take the Peavy trade at this point. Yeah, can this trade please not happen!
lostfan
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:41 PM) Their outfield is full (Scott-Jones-Markakis) if they acquire Freel with intent of playing him everyday (I doubt that's what they're doing) he's either gonna have to platoon with someone or play 2B/3B with one of Mora/Roberts going elsewhere, Freel has played plenty of infield in his career. The O's are still pretty high on Jones, as far as I know. I can't see them replacing him. But hell, if they don't want him, I'd LOVE to have him. That is surprising to hear. Now what happens if someone offers Kenny a great offer?
iamshack
QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) I saw reports that say he didn't get into Vegas until this afternoon. So he and Ozzie, who were scheduled to meet with the media Monday afternoon, pushed it back until Tuesday. There is honestly very little going on here, except perhaps in private rooms...there is a crapload of media personnel just standing around the elecators waiting for something, anything, to happen. I almost want to run up to them all and tell "Sabathia signed with the Angels!" I did see Gammons talking with Dusty Baker earlier...so whatever he said in regards to Dye is probably pretty accurate... Just in the sportsbook watching the football game at the moment...Go Bucs! 103 mph screwball
QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:39 PM) See...I can see people wanting the best for JD...but this is a business...and Kenny is boss and JD is an employee. Not too familiar with many businesses that consult with their employees before they make business decisions. True, however, would it be honorable if your boss told you not to worry about your job and that you were important to the business and then the next day he laid you off to save the business money? JD honored an agreement with KW and signed with the Sox even after Texas offered more money. He's our World Series MVP who resigned for less than he could have gotten on the open market. He deserves to be dealt with as a VIP. I guess I still feel a man's word means something. I hope this is some sort of smoke screen that I don't understand or that Gammons misunderstood a second hand conversation.
EvilJester99
9:00pm: MLB.com's Corey Brock says the legwork on this trade "has essentially been completed." No deal has been reached, but Towers says he's facilitated a three or possibly four-team deal. The third and possibly fourth teams (Orioles, Phillies) have agreed to players. There could be some haggling remaining on players sent from the Cubs to Padres. Brock says all Towers needs now is the go-ahead from Hendry. BaseballNick
Kevin Towers was on MLB radio about a week ago and he sounded like a beaten man. He knows his team sucks, and a lot of that is because he sucks.

Flowers is likely to start the season at Double-A Birmingham." This intrigued me.
Marty34
I believe that in 2-3 years we'll look back at this time in MLB and say that the teams (Yankees included maybe) that did not cut payroll were the teams that made the biggest mistakes. fathom
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:26 AM) I'm gooing to make a bold prediction that if the Peavy and the Bailey trades goes through interleague between the Cubs/Sox is going to be closer then everyone thinks. Peavy V Buehrle Big Z V Floyd Harden V Danks Dempster V Bailey Lilly V CR/AP Awesome. If the Cubs get Peavy, they'll have the best rotation in baseball (at least for the first month). It's silly to compare our rotation to that. No matter what happens in the first 162 games for the Cubs, we can hold out hope that they've lost 9 straight playoff games and Peavy has no balls in the postseason.
