Rod Blagojevich officially facing federal corruption charges

I really didn't know much about Bobby Rush before this, and nothing about Burris. However, after their comments (Rush's blatant "crying racism" and Burris commenting that he didn't think there would be any controversy), I think they're both idiots of the highest order.

So, did anyone watch Blogo's "human shield" press conference the other day?

I had to turn it off... it made me feel icky and uncomfortable.

All I was thinking during the press conference was "I wish soxtalk was up right now, the filibuster would be hilarious right around now"

To tell you the truth, Im kind of surprised at the lack of reaction thus far.

And it was unbelievable, human shield is the perfect description for it. I like how he inferred that he was being impeached because he saved someone from cancer.

If Blago is convicted by the Senate, 10 puppies will die.

An embarrassing episode for Illinois, but in the long run, perhaps this will help clean things up a little. Not nearly enough of course, but, a little.

It won't. The only reason he got impeached was because he pissed off the wrong people. When you look at guys like Daley and Stroger who are just as much, if not more crooked, and still get to be in office unscathed, that saids it all to me.

Actually, I'd suggest he got impeached beacuse he was particularly stupid and corrupt, even compared to other politicians. It was just too obvious. As an added bonus, he was incompetent as a governor, and had zero clue how to interface with a legislative body. All that combined to be his doom.

Just remember though, the Feds did this investigation. He didn't piss them off, there was no relationship there at all. They went after him because he was so blatant and obvious.

It was pathetic, but didn't surprise me at all. Blago loves this type of stuff and it's gotten him elected twice.

Stupid? Yes. Corrupt? I don't buy it. I know the Feds did this investigation, but I fully believe that there were forces behind behind it. I am sure there were a whole lot more people willing to cooperate and give information in this mess, than say investigating a Rich Daley.

Oh, there were definitely locals that cooperated, I am sure of it. But I actually believe that Fitzgerald tends to go for big wins - big fish, but also easy-to-catch ones. He's shown he's not really one for political favor jobs.

And the Feds have, in fact, investigated Daley, continue to do so, and some of his cronies have fallen victim.

I wouldn't even call it a political favor, as much as I would call it being much easier to chase down someone who you have information being fed to you about, versus someone who no one will sell out. The whole state hates Blago, so I am sure they had plenty of people chasing down Fitzgerald to give up what they knew about him. I doubt the samething happens with Daley and Stroger, which also makes it much hard to take those kind of people down.

  • 2 weeks later...

Blago gave his first extended interview since the arrest today. Just some real gems here...

Pat Quinn has cut a deal with Democratic leaders....It's all about getting rid of me to raise taxes on people.

So Pat Quinn runs the feds, and they are prosecuting so that taxes can be raised?

Asked if he wanted to apologize for anything, he said in reference to the U.S. wiretaps: "I apologize for the profanity...If I knew they were listening, I wouldn't have used those words."

So, no need to apologize for any of the "golden" moments of corruption on those tapes then?

Ending his 43-minute interview, Blagojevich likened the current drama surrounding him "to a 21st Century Frank Capra movie... how the good guy was up against the establishment... But he stood firm for the people. That's what this is about."

He's a hero!!!

The governor hinted he might file a lawsuit to block the impeachment trial scheduled to begin Monday in Springfield. "We're going to do something later today," he said. Later, it was announced that he would have a news conference at 2 p.m. in Chicago

Ah good, more legal maneuvering.

He's giving a news conference right now. This guy is perhaps the most bizarre politican I have ever seen, and that's REALLY saying something with all of the loonies in that line of work.

He's lost his mind. Supposedly when they were arresting him initially and talking to him, he was alternating running in place and laying down in the fetal position.

This is just funny now. This is so bizarre, so unexplainable, so unbelieveable what he is saying, that all you can do is laugh.

You can tell a man's character by how they react under pressure. How they react when you feeling you are being prosecuted unlawfully.

Blogo has proven himself to be a loose cannon with anger issues and completely irrational.

I think that assesment of him is being kind (and I know you didn't mean it to be kind). I would say he's bat s*** crazy, but I don't even think that covers it.

So, just talked to my daughter's baby sitter (my sister), and she said they were watching the Blogo press conference... then all of a sudden my daughter got really upset and disgruntled. Apparently she pooped her pants.

Even a 4 month old knows he's a wack job.

WGN Radio Offers Blogo a Job:

January 23, 2009 - WGN Radio (720 AM) Program Director Kevin Metheny today announced that the station is offering the currently vacant weekday 1-4pm show to Rod and Patti Blagojevich.

In a statement made live on WGN Radio immediately following the Blagojevich press conference today, Metheny stated:

"WGN Radio seeks to fill the on-air opening that was recently vacated by John Williams from 1-4pm weekdays. After weeks of auditions and substitutions by fascinating radio performers, we're now prepared to fill the position.

On numerous occasions we've been impressed by the mastery of public policy, newshound-like familiarity with the events of the day, and remarkable facility with banter displayed by Governor Rod Blagojevich. WGN Radio offers the 1-4pm weekday afternoon opening to the team of The Governor and the First Lady, Rod & Patti Blagojevich. Some may feel this is a cynical gesture in pursuit of publicity, but nothing could be further from the truth. The currency of radio's realm is ratings, and the Governor is ratings gold. Mrs. Blagojevich is currently unemployed. In all probability the Governor will soon be unemployed as well, and frankly, he could use a good medical plan to defray the expenses of psychiatric care.

The jobs are both full-time, with benefits. While it would be unseemly to disclose the monetary details in this public forum, we're prepared to compensate each Blagojevich at a healthy six-figure annual rate. The positions come with benefits pursuant to Tribune Company policy for similarly situated employees, plus a fully logoed WGN Radio jogging suit.

So, there you have it. As much as we love Nick Digilio, Dean Richards and the other candidates, we're prepared to stop the search for a new WGN early afternoon program now and hire the Blagojevichs. Full-time. Serious money. With benefits. Including medical. Our United Health Care Insurance includes a generous provision for mental health coverage and an employee assistance program. I look forward to hearing from the Governor and First Lady, or a representative, to discuss the details. WGN Radio is an equal opportunity employer. We're serious. Thank you for listening."
