Texsox
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) I don't agree, but I'm not much of a party-centric person either. I have a few reasons, but the main one is party affiliation controls committee assignments, etc. I believe by maintaining the party label, it takes some of the politics out of it. There is less of a potential political gain/loss when the seat can't move form one side of the aisle to another.

Steff
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) lol i don't think you understand the word 'comparison'. I understand it just fine. And I understand how you were trying to insinuate he was comparing himself to them in the martyr roles they played, which was not at all the case. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) lol well he seemed to impy he was under similar circumstances, thus making a comparison between him and them. No he did not say he was under similar circumstances. As a matter of fact he went out of his way to say he was in no shape or form comparing his issues to their plights. I imagine it's difficult being such an expert at everything... maybe if you narrowed down your expertise some you'd be a bit more accurate. He is certifiable, that's for sure. I would not be surprised if he ends up having some sort of breakdown over the course of this. He can't be right in the head with some of the things coming out of his mouth.
NorthSideSox72
Don't be surprised if, just before the criminal trial starts, we see Blago's defense move towards some sort of mental insufficiency defense.

whitesoxfan101
I have never seen a guy who seems legitimately insane, but also is a very smooth talker at the same time. At least not until Blago, he is truly one of a kind.

When the Senate whacks him, they can also pass a decree banning Blago from any political office in Illinois ever again. I believe they will do that, and that may be part of Blago's plan here - get his name out there nationally and see if some other state falls for it the way Illinois did. LOL at "democrat" lingo. he isn't insane - but I am pretty sure he isn't all there. Look at his behavior - he is total denial of reality. this goes way, way beyond your average corrupt politician. Generally they can smooth talk a victim into getting into their car, going to their apartment, etc.
southsider2k5
Did anyone else listen to the tapes last night and wonder if that was the best of the evidence they had? You really had to read into his statements to get out what the government is saying. I am sure there is more, but what was released yesterday was pretty weak on its own merits. Guys say exaggerated stuff all the time. How many asses have we threatened to kick or f***, without really meaning it? I'm not coming to his defense, but I agree with you, some of the tapes I heard and transcripts I read seem as much b.s. as reality and not exactly a knock out punch to an elected official. Personally I believe the guy is guilty, I would just hope that they have more corroborating evidence, or even some more direct and damning tapes, because what I heard actually plays into Rod's defense. Exactly. I believe what is best is either a clean end or a 100%-no-doubt-about-it exoneration. Since the exoneration seems very unlikely, a quick, effective end would be best.
