Texsox
http://www.snopes.com/photos/military/wreaths.asp Arlington National Cemetery Readers may be interested to know that these wreaths — some 5,000 — are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington, Maine. The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done this since 1992. A wonderful guy. Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out. Making this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state.
Texsox
For the eighth year in row Norteño pioneer Ramon Ayala wants to help those who need some added cheer this Christmas. Ayala, the Hermes Music Foundation and the City of Hidalgo will present the eighth annual Christmas Posada. The posada, which has become a local tradition, is a free event that invites the local community to enjoy food, live entertainment and a visit from Santa Claus. Part of that tradition is the generosity extended toward impoverished children who will be able to receive one of 10,000 Christmas presents handed out Wednesday afternoon. Families are encouraged to line up outside of the Ayala's Hidalgo home on Texano Street where they will receive a ticket for the gift. Children 12 years and under qualify. He is a Grammy Award winner and chooses to live a humble life blocks away from Mexico. His generosity of spirit and his sharing of resources is incredible. Hidalgo is an amazing success story for a community with very few resources and they achieve so much. Here is a picture of his house lit up for Christmas.
