YASNY
Are any of you familiar with an a band, vocalist, performer that hasn't hit the mainstream yet but you think they are deserving. A local band in area or somebody you've heard that you think really deserves a shot at the big time? If so and they have a website or something, link us up and give them them some exposure. Turn us all on to the performers that you knew or were aware of before they were big. Or hell, if you're a performer let us hear your stuff. CanOfCorn
I have a couple: Monahans née Milton Mapes. www.monahans.net. I think they still tour as both as its the same members in both bands. Awesome band, they are self-described as landscape rock-and-roll. Sometimes play Schuba's here in Chicago. The Octopus Project. www.theoctopusproject.com The Pulsars meet The Rentals meet Combustible Edison. What Made Milwaukee Famous. www.whatmademilwaukeefamous.com, although it's being updated. I know they are sorta on the cusp, but I love this band. I have friends in Monahans and WWMF, for full disclosure. Usually playing that night. I don't know how he does it...playing simultaneously in Corpus, South Padre, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Victoria and Dallas. Soxy
There are a couple of local acts I love. But most of them have a big regional following. Storyhill Alva Star Brenda Weiler Lori McKenna (but she's pretty famous now) Jaybar Crow

Texsox
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) Seriously...how does he do it??? Up until a couple years ago, with no record deal, necessity. He likes to eat. Now a day with the record deal, I don't know. If you have ever seen his live show, it's all the fun and energy of a Springstein concert circa 1982. Guys that woudl never dream of going top a country show are having a good time next to some off the west Texas range cowboy. Damnest thing I've ever seen. YASNY
Yeah, Pat Green is decent but I'd hardly call him an umknown. I have run across a band from Carbondale that I just love their sound. The Ivas John Band. For all you SIU people, they play at the Key West Lounge on Sunday nights regularly, not not always every Sunday night. You can check out some of their music here. If any of you at SIU have seen this group play, I'd like to know what you thought.
Texsox
Pat Green hasn't broke the top 100 with any songs, so I assumed he was obscure outside Texas. Nice to hear some people around the country are hearing him. For a party/bar band Hair Banger's Ball is a good show. They have been playing all around CHicago and down to Bloomington and up north a little bit.
daa84
yeah pat green was unknown for a while when he was strictly a texas country guy, then like 6 years ago or so he started hitting it a bit bigger in the more corporate Nashville country scene, and I'd say most who follow country music definitely know who he is.....id be shocked if wave on wave, baby girl, and don't break my heart again didn't hit the top 100 country charts....those last two songs had pretty big videos that were featured on CMT and all three were on country radio even in chicago BTW i saw him live at a bar in Nashville and it was fantastic....definitely has a great chemistry with his fans Edited December 17, 2008 by daa84

Rooftop Shots
In 1974 I saw Styx in a little recreation center that packed about 500 people in a small town called Calumet Park. (Not Calumet City! That's out by Dolton) Calumet Park is about a half mile east of Blue Island.
