#2 Nelson Fox 1959 MVP
"If we ever decide to do something, there will be an announcement," Williams said. "Other than that, I'm focused on Thursday through the weekend and getting off to a good second half." How in the world did anyone get an 'ultimatum' from this quote, or any of the quotes there? Williams didn't say anything about anyone losing their job, and in fact said nothing at all, just the Ol' soft shoe. If anything at all can be 'telling' from his quotes it's the use of 'we' rather than 'I', and the words ""If we ever decide to do something...". Are there still those who think Kenny is making any decisions? From what I heard Reinsdorf say tonight on ESPN 1000, you are right, and almost quoted him before he said it. clujer420
For what it's worth, MLB.com radio has been saying all morning that they believe that a move in regards to Manuel will be made as early as Thursday, depending on hold they come out of the gate in the second half. Obviously, they keep stressing this is only rumor. Being that Thursday is the first day of the 2nd half, I doubt something will happen on that day. Unless they lose to Detroit 25-0, I don't see anything happening that soon.

Does anyone think he made those quotes knowing that he didn't want anything to slip about Manuel getting canned tomorrow? If I'm the owner and I have this venue and I don't want any bad press to show up the game or any press in general showing up the game, I'd make damn sure that no one that Jerry was going to get fired and the only way to do that is to make the comments he made. Mark my words, Manuel is done.

Well my thinking is KW slipped those quotes out or said something and didn't mean it to come out that way. I think he wanted things to come out as if he was going to make another trade to improve the team. That or he said something prematurely and JR had to go out and fix it. This is me speculating though.

SpringfieldFan
All I can say is that if JM's days are numbered, the firing had better come awfully quick - none of this "see how the homestand goes" or "wait until the end of the month" stuff. If getting a new guy in there is going to salvage the season it has to happen almost immediately. I say this because although the all star break is "midseason", we are well past the halfway mark aleady. The Sox are 45-49. That is 94 games in the books. My math skills tell me that leaves only 68 games to turn it around and make up 8 games in the loss column. Sure, the all star break is happening, but we are already well into the second half...
