caulfield12
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 12:12 AM) I did that a while back with the top 10's, it was my impression that roughly 1/2 of the top 10 prospects wound up busting. If we were to look back around the time of 1999/00/01, look at the Sox prospects who have made the biggest impact (not counting Garland, who wasn't incubated in our system). Buehrle Josh Fogg Those were two of the lowest rated in our Top 10 list around that time...and then you have Rowand, who many thought might turn out to be more like Aaron Cunningham/Jeremy Reed in terms of a big league career as a 4th OF. You could even argue that Biddle and Majewski were fringe prospects who made a bigger impact than most our top-rated guys. But look at all the busts. Kip Wells, with the Sox...and for most of his MLB career Danny Wright Aaron Myette Jon Rauch Lorenzo Barcelo Jason Stumm Brian West Corwin Malone Joe Borchard Matt Guerrier (well, it's a stretch to refer to him as a "top" prospect) Matt Ginter

I was a HUGE fan of Danny Wright, Lorenzo Barcelo and Corwin Malone.
southsider2k5
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 24, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) I remember being so giddy about all the 'impact' prospects we seemed to have at the time. I was a HUGE fan of Danny Wright, Lorenzo Barcelo and Corwin Malone. Wright and Barcelo were both victims of major shoulder surgeries that really killed what could have been good careers. scenario
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 02:09 AM) and then you have Rowand, who many thought might turn out to be more like Aaron Cunningham/Jeremy Reed in terms of a big league career as a 4th OF. I wouldn't be so quick to label Cunningham as a 4th OF type. He's only 22 and absolutely destroyed minor league pitching the last two years. Given Oakland's glut in the outfield maybe KW can find a way to get him back. I'd be pretty happy to stick him in left in 2010... after Dye leaves and Q moves to right. He likely wouldn't come very cheap.

I find it interesting that former WhiteSox draftees fill three of the top ten spots in the Oakland's farm system this year.

Sickel's rankings are a bit different, but he still has three of draftees in his top 10.
Dick Allen
I was reading something someplace a guy ask someone with this list how the #30 prospect with the top organization would rank if he was with the worst organization and how the top prospect for the worst organization would rank in the top org. They ranked them 7th for both scenerios.
