Chisoxfn
They probably won't announce the move till next week. That doesn't give them much time to reach a deal with Frank Thomas, but it does at least give a possibility that Frank's stay on the southside will come to an end. We can only hope Jason...... we can onlllllly hope. If we do, Baltimore Officially our "problem" dump. Belle, Now Frank.
Chisoxfn
I don't even classify Thomas as Belle because I really believe Thomas will have a good year next year. I feel Lee should be the one to go. Mainly because I think he will be gone after next year either way you look at it, which will open up a big void in the Sox lineup. You can't just always count on youngsters, you need some solid forces in the lineup. The whole reason I'm for playing guys like Jimenez, Crede, Rowand, etc(Harris or Hummell as well) is because Maggs, Lee, Thomas, and Konerko can more then make up for it. With them in their the offense will be above average, no doubt.

Chisoxfn
Now Now Michelle, best hitter on the team, I think not. That distinction has to go to your guy Maggs!!!
Guest hotsoxchick1
as you know i love maggs with all my heart.. but only untill hes had the number of years that frank has had with the team and keeps up the consistant awesome stats .. then and only then he can take that away from frank...... Chisoxfn
Frank is the greatest of all time, but right now, Maggs is the best on the team. Of course I really belive Frank is going to be a force offensively next season and for that reason I'd rather have Frank then Lee, since it appears its one or the other. Plus if we keep Frank then its became obvious to me that Lee will be shipped out for a pitcher, and I love that idea because hey, we need pitching. Plus it opens up the hole for Borchard who will be here in 2004 and will get time in 2003. Hopefully Joe really figures things out this year. witesoxfan
OK, I'd like some clarification on this whole DSC deal...just a little technicality. Does Thomas have UNTIL December 7th to reach a deal with another team(meaning he has to sign before this), or is December 7th the deadline(his last day to sign)?
Chisoxfn
If he doesn't sign by December 7th then he comes back to the Sox at 250 k per year with the rest of the money defferred. The Sox have said they will negotiate with Thomas though, once he comes back, but any way you look at it, he'll be with the Sox or traded if he isn't signed by the 7th. Of course he is tough to unload until he proves something because if he's dealt the money is no longer deferred and he gets 10 mill a year or so. Molto
actually, I think it is 300,000. that is the league minimum now.
Guest hotsoxchick1
yes it is 300,000 (league min)...frank has untill midnite dec 7th to sign or stay... either way he makes a ton of money still, because of the defered hes still owed from previous seasons.....im thinking this move of kw's (the invoking the rpr clause formerly known as the dsc).. will cost him tons in the long run no matter what frank decides to do....... Chisoxfn
I think since its in the contract they could technically still give him 250 k a year.
Guest hotsoxchick1
from what i understand baggs and jas.. it has to go with the market minimum as it is at the time they invoke the clause........
witesoxfan
We are all forgetting something here....it doesn't mean they HAVE to defer all of it...they can defer up to $300,000(or $250,000...whatever the hell it is)....isn't it? They could defer maybe $6 million of it and then use the saved money to get another pitcher. Maybe they give him $5-6 million next year. I just want him back in a Sox uniform next year...White Sox, that is.
Guest hotsoxchick1
we still owe him money from previous years.... so we wont be saving much of anything....at least not till hes fully paid off..........
Chisoxfn
No, but many seem to think JR is willing to spend some of that money since its deffered, but I don't really buy that. Cause if thats the case, then he won't spend a time when all that deferred money is due. We really could use an owner that really wanted to win. I'm not asking for even an 80 million payroll, but a guy thats willing to spend 70 million if the team was on the brink and then spend the money to keep that team together. Guest hotsoxchick1
when frank does sign that deal with the o's all that previous deffered will come due upon his departure.... i dont think that jr will be spending any cash anytime soon.....
Chisoxfn
I don't think he really had any deferred money up until this point. OTher then maybe a couple million.
Guest hotsoxchick1
im making it my mission in my off time tomorrow to hunt down the figures for you in my stockholders report and let you know for sure how much is hanging in the breeze..........ok jas.. i may have to scan it off and try to put it up here if i cant then ill scan it off and send it to you and you can put it up ......... Chisoxfn
Alright. I just figured he made 10 mill last year and that was about what his contract called for. Your the one with the figures though,
Guest hotsoxchick1
he made 10 on paper but his actual payout wasnt quite that much.. i have the numbers around here somewhere and like i said ill be hunting them down.. i also think that we still owe him some cash from the 2000 and 1999 seasons as well.......it may not amount to alot but anything is alot when it comes to jr having to dish it all out at once........as he will when frank walks.........
