Kyyle23
QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) Addressing the RT position is definitely a step in the right direction... Omiyale probably picks the Bears because he will be able to start here. Hopefully Chris Williams and Omiyale will solidy those spots... if not the bears will be in trouble. I wonder if Jerry Angelo would consider trading for Derrek Anderson. It looks like the Browns are trying to get rid of some of their economic waste, and Anderson must be a costly back-up for them. Its unclear how good Anderson might be, but it wouldn't hurt to have another QB with experience in camp to challenge/push Orton. Derek Anderson had a season ending knee injury in the last game of the season of which he was benched because he was clearly regressing. I really hope the Bears do NOT explore this option

They stop the run better than anyone else in the NFL, have the NFL's best running back, and now with Rosenfels, have a decent enough QB. The only thing that stops the Vikings from being an elite team IMO is Brad Childress.

zenryan
QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) Kellen Winslow traded to Tampa Bay. I'm kinda going back and forth on getting Winslow. If he's healthy then its great to get a guy who is going to catch atleast 60 balls a year. But is McCown the guy? I liked what I've seen from McGown in limited play but who knows. Then how much are the Bucs giving up? Hopefully not a 2nd and a 3rd like the guy on ESPN hinted at. Overall I'm happy about the trade but weary too. Edited February 27, 2009 by zenryan
DBAHO
2nd in 09 and a 5th in 2010 is what I've heard. I think Tampa knows the new QB will need all the weapons he can get next season.

DBAHO
Luke McGown. Was re-signed to a 2 year 7.5M deal this off-season, will be given a chance to start. A lot of people think he's comparable to Rob Johnson though.

I really think that there are going to be better, cheaper options out there who are at about the same level (I don't hold him any higher than Grossman right now). The NFL is the only league who hasn't really been hammered by the economy yet, but that's because FA hadn't started yet and ticket sales packages weren't going out yet. Now those things are happening.

I still think Kyle Orton is probably the best QB the Bears could start this upcoming years with the other options available. A guy like Chris Simms is intriguing, but if Angelo can find a couple of receivers and the offensive pans out and allows the QB time to throw the ball... this offense (in theory) should be better than last year. There are still too many IFS for my taste, but its not as bad as it could be.

The team just isn't going to develop a WR from this draft or last draft fast enough to make a dent on their WR hole. 2. Additional O-Line help, specifically a Right Tackle. A high draft pick would work, as would a FA signing. 3. Backup RB and Backup QB. Between the 18th pick, their 2nd round pick, and the $31 mil or so in cap space they have with no one to extend, there's no reason not to fill those holes. There seems to be a number of quality veteran WR available on the market. If signed the WR would be virtually guaranteed to be the number 1 option... so Chicago could be an attractive spot for the right guy. (although i'm sure Orton, this line, and our history of offensive failures do not exactly stiffen the pecker) 2. If Andre Smith Alabama falls, I think the JA should actively pursue him and trade up if they can. I don't care about the combine or talking to an agent... the kid is a BEAST! IF other teams are shaky on him... he seems to be the kind of player that the Bears should take a chance on, because our current roster is remarkably mediocre. I'll take any information I can get. So far I know Jerry Angelo likes him. The end. He fits the role of "Backup O-Lineman assuming St. Clair walks and the Bears get someone else". Can play guard and tackle, only has 1 start in Carolina. He just turned 27, compared to St. Clair who will turn 32 before this season starts. He covers the depth the Bears needed at that position. Now they need someone on the front lines.

If the Bears don't do this (the bolded part), then I think it is fair to say they don't plan on being all that competitive this season. They honestly don't have a legitimate WR on the roster right now. Frankly, they probably need two WRs, and there are some interesting guys out there past the first tier (Housh plus the guys supposedly available via trade) since I doubt the Bears spend huge money on one WR. Brian
NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Matt Cassel has been traded to the Chiefs. The Boston Globe's Mike Reiss has confirmed the news, which is part of the trade sending Mike Vrabel West. There were rumors Cassel could be involved in a three-team swap, but it appears Kansas City will be his final destination. Compensation has not been announced, but it's safe to say the Tyler Thigpen era is over before it started. Cassel may not have excelled in every system, but he's set up for great long-term success under GM Scott Pioli and coach Todd Haley, who will play to his strengths. A new contract is likely. WilliamTell
As a Chiefs fan, I'm extremely happy and somewhat sad. I think Cassel will do a great job as quarterback, but I'm kind of sad that Thigpen won't get a whole year to see what he's capable of. He really improved throughout the year last year. MurcieOne
KC -- Matt Cassel NE -- 34th overall pick I like this move for both teams, the Pats basically add a first round pick (2nd pick of second round), the Chiefs get a young QB, and Matt Cassel gets a lot of money and a chance to start.
