Steve9347
White Sox make Abreu one-year offer 2/3/2009 The White Sox have made free agent outfielder Bobby Abreu a one-year offer for $8 million, the New York Daily News reported. Abreu made $16 million last season with the Yankees, hitting .296 with 20 homers, 100 RBIs, 100 runs and 22 steals. The White Sox are the latest team linked to Abreu in the past week. The New York Post reported that the Mets have shown some interest, but have not made an offer. The Seattle Times reported that the Mariners were interested. NorthSideSox72
Wow. I assume Abreu can't play CF, right? Therefore, this means someone is about to get traded?
G&T
Not totally surprised. The Dodgers made a 1 year offer to Manny (which was rejected) so there is precedent in the market now. I doubt he'll accept.

Therefore, this means someone is about to get traded? yeah this is very interesting....abreu would be a great #2 hitter IMO...someone would have to be moved though...maybe this is an old report that has just surfaced now, or maybe KW has a trade for dye on the table
southsider2k5
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) Wow. I assume Abreu can't play CF, right? Therefore, this means someone is about to get traded? That is exactly what I was thinking... Or are we looking at a 4 players for 3 positions scenario (Thome, Dye, CQ, Abreu for RF, LF, and DH.)? shipps
Wow I didnt think the Sox would spend a penny more this off season. Like others have said, someone elses money has got to be on the way out.
Dick Allen
Either this report is BS or somebody is getting moved.
DaTank
I predict a Homer Bailey trade coming.

daa84
maybe with manny turning down 25 million, the dodgers are now willing to trade for dye?
BigSqwert
So once again KW is full of crap when he says he is done making any more big deals.

Maybe. Or not. So once again, you just can't take anything literally, whatsoever, from KW.
chisox2334
One, Kenny never said he was done. The AP report did and if you listened to Kenny asking about Cuban guy Gomez kenny exact words " Were looking all around".
DBAHO
Must be contingent on the Sox being able to trade Dye to someone I would have thought. Maybe the Sox would attach an option on that deal also possibly?

scenario
Unlikely that anyone would trade for Dye with Abreu still available as a free agent... But by signing Abreu, KW might be able to make a create a market for JD. Pretty creative if true.

DBAHO
QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 10:08 AM) Unlikely that anyone would trade for Dye with Abreu still available as a free agent... But by signing Abreu, KW might be able to make a create a market for JD. Pretty creative if true. The Sox would be stuck with 3 OF's who could only play in corner OF spots though. Don't think they can take that sort of chance.
kane0730
Mully/Hanley on the Score are speculating Figgins for Dye if Abreu is signed. I would like to think the Sox could get more then just Figgins for Dye.

I almost wonder with Williams if he is just putting stuff out there so no one knows what is going on, because no one knows whether to believe it or not when they hear something. chisox2334
-- Williams tried to dance around a fan's question about possible interest in 28-year-old Cuban center fielder Yasser Gomez. "We're looking at a lot of players," said Williams, careful not to get into specifics. theres kenny not saying hes done
