Most Likely out of baseball:

Mike DiFelice, Robert Fick, Wiki Gonzalez, Javier Lopez, Doug Mirabelli (thought I read he was going to coach somewhere,) Gary Bennett, Scott Hatteberg, Mark Sweeney, Miguel Cairo, Morgan Ensberg (man he fell hard,) Tomas Perez (remember when the Sox traded for in him in 2007?) Ramon Martinez, Jay Payton, Shannon Stewart, Jacque Jones, Brian Lawrence, Shawn Chacon, Curt Schilling, Steve Trachsel, Kris Benson, Al Reyes, Mike Timlin, Joe Borowski

there are a couple of names there I wouldnt mind in a backup role. Jacque Jones and Shannon Steward sure would be better than Dewayne Wise.

I'll take the durability and versatility (as limited as it is) of Wise over Shannon Stewart. Jones is intriguing, but he's a fringe player at this point in his career. He'll get signed to a MLC by some team this year and I'd imagine he'll see time in the majors too.

Its easier to stay healthy in a backup role though, Which is only reason why Id consider Stewart. Is it odd that it feels just last season the Twins OF was Shannon Stewart, Jaque Jones, and Torri Hunter all a pain in the whitesox ass.

easier to stay healthy, yes, but not to play CF, even short-term, when you haven't played the position (other than 6 random games in one season (with the A's, which makes sense)) in 10 years.

Lol well I wouldnt want Dewayne Wise playing CF either which would be the player being replaced.

Wouldn't Paul Lo Duca be a pretty good compliment to Pyrzinski. I realize he's a former roider whose past his prime, but he stastically hits lefties well (despite a not so good season last year). Over the past three years he's hitting lefties to a .323 clip with an 800+ OPS. I realize those numbers are inflated due to him being a lesser player in 08 and probably again in 09 but he might not be a bad option (and should come relatively cheap).

Pudge is a better candiate because he's a better defensive catcher and was still pretty productive vs. lefties last year, but he might insist on a bit more playing time. Regardless I think either of these guys would be upgrades over Hall (albeit Hall's attitude fit in really well).

I dunno, LoDuca isn't just a former roider, he's not a guy like Brian Roberts who maybe did it for a short time (even I don't want Roberts in part for that reason), LoDuca was one of the ringleaders/distributors/heavy, heavy users. Not only is he past his prime and such, but there's every reason to think that what he was last year could be his peak, because presumably he's way off of the hard stuff. I can't imagine him being a good fit for really any team in the clubhouse, he's among the worst on the Mitchell list, probably helped get plenty of others including Gagne on the stuff, and there's no reason to expect him to improve from last year's #s.

He's a Type A? Yikes.

Jesus Christ it's right next to his name.

Luis Ayala-R- Mets Feb. 6 - 5:40 pm et

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that the Twins and Luis Ayala have come to terms on a one-year, $1.3 million contract.

Ayala isn't the eighth-inning guy the Twins desired, but he remains worthy of a spot in a major league pen. $1.3 million isn't a bad deal.

Randy Wolf-S- Astros Feb. 6 - 5:39 pm et

MLB.com reports that the Dodgers and free agent Randy Wolf are believed to be close to a deal.

It was only a matter of time. Wolf lost his other suitors when the Mets re-signed Oliver Perez, the Diamondbacks brought in Jon Garland and the Astros got cheap. He'll join Chad Billingsley, Hiroki Kuroda and Clayton Kershaw in the Los Angeles rotation.

I still don't see why it should be something we should hold against him. Doesn't steroids mean he had a greater desire to win than those that didn't use them?

If nothing else...what typically happens to these guys 3-5 years after they're off? They have seasons like LoDuca had last year.
