I pray EVERY night that will never happen...

I could care less. I love Joe for everything he did, but at this point, he's nothing more than a player who is bound to get injured for a long period of time at some point during the season.

Maybe witesox fan, but magglio sure hasn't been injured since departing the sox and most people would have bet he was through as well.

I hope Fields is great, but right now he is a question mark.

Yes he was, he sat out half of 2005 after hernia surgery. And last year he had various back and knee problems as well, he missed 16 games

Sure he is. I just don't understand the Crede hate around here. The guy is one of the reasons we won it all. OK, dispute that. I'm sure somebody will say he didn't do squat.

He did.

There isnt Crede hate for what he did in 05, its just time to move on. The only Crede hate is towards the people who want him back now when it makes no sense.

Difference between saying a player is bad and was bad. He is such a liability healthwise right now that the Sox are better off moving forward with cheaper, potentially better alternatives. I dont think anybody would truly discredit Crede as a Sox player contributing to the Championship team, but its a "what have you done fore me lately" game. And hes been injured for the past 3 years and has Boras as his agent. He couldve done more to stay with the Sox if he wanted to, such as get a new agent, but he didnt. Hes moving on, the Sox are moving on, and so should fans (root for him if you want, but STOP asking/praying for him to return).

I loved Joe Crede when he was the White Sox's thirdbaseman and playing 100+ games a season, he brought stability to the position for 5 months out of the year, provided slightly below league average offense and was one of the best defenders in the game. It's just reached the point where I'm sick of hearing and reading his name. If certain fans knew when to let a player go there would be problem. Joe Crede hasn't been a factor since 2006 and yet I have to read his name on here everyday, the man's jersey number has already been given to a rookie, it's time to move on.

This is how you sustain success over a prolonged period of time. If you refuse to let players go for sentimental reasons you're going to destroy your ballclub. If certain people around here had their way Iguchi would still be at second, Pods would be leading off and Cliff Politte would be pitching the 8th inning.

There are some people who still don't understand why we dumped Iguchi in 2007 because they see him as the same player he was in 2005.

There isn't Crede hate, it's only perceived to be that way by some fans who can't let go. I love Crede as much as anybody, but the era is over. If we were certain he could actually play and be the same player, there wouldn't be this discussion. But he is even more of a question mark than either Fields or Viciedo anymore.

The Twins were present today in Arizona as free agent third baseman Joe Crede took batting practice. The Twins remain interested in his services, but indications are that Crede wants $7 million guaranteed - up to $11 million with incentives - and the Twins aren’t going there.

Indications are that the Twins are willing to craft a deal that reaches $7-8 million with incentives. The incentives would occur right away, like getting $1 million or so for making the Opening Day roster.

It has become THE question of the offseason for Twins fans who are salivating over Crede settling into the Twins batting order and wearing out left-handed pitchers - how much is Crede worth?

I admit I would have taken the plunge at a base salary of $5 million with incentives to push it past $8 million. A $7 million base, to me, is risky when you’re talking about someone with back problems playing home games on FieldTurf.

I was a big fan of Joe Crede, but this ^^^^ sums it up quite well.

Heard last night that the Twins and Joe Crede are at an impasse. Sounds like the Twins are sticking to their guns and want Crede to lower his price. I have asked a few players in recent days about adding Crede, and there seems to be a lot of support for the Buscher-Harris platoon. Buscher has crushed the ball in batting practice here. And many believe that third base is Harris’ best position - and a player who is more comfortable in the field might be more comfortable at the plate.

The Giants, who told one of their writers a couple day ago that they though Crede was headed to the Twins, are still monitoring the situation.

Unless the Giants step in, I see Crede signing with the Twins for $4-5 mill with incentives.

In this market that's still a ton of money.

Think about it...given their injury history the last few years, is Joe Crede worth the same amount as Bobby Abreu?

These middle of the road guys screwed up waiting. Kyle Farnsworth got 2 years $9 million. Orlando Hudson will make the same money most likely in 2009.

I think, in this current market, that Crede's worth a one-year contract of only 2.5/3 million with incentives that would give Crede no more than a total of 5 million.

No way is he worth 7-8 million plus incentives with his back, he and Boras got to stop smoking whatever it is that they're smoking.

According to La Velle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Twins and Joe Crede/Scott Boras have reached an impasse in contract talks. Crede's been rumored to want a $7MM base salary; I'm guessing the Twins are probably thinking he deserves about half that. Twins players support the idea of a Brian Buscher/Brendan Harris platoon.

Yesterday Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News said the Giants aren't confident about signing Crede but they do maintain interest.

Crede close to signing with Twins:

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Free agent third baseman Joe Crede's closing in on a deal with the Twins, SI.com has learned.

The lifelong White Sox player hit .248 with 17 home runs and 55 RBIs this past year, when he was hampered by a back injury (but still made the AL All-Star team). Crede, 30, has 125 career home runs.

He starred on the 2005 World Series title team, but has had back trouble at different times in his career.

The Twins had been looking at a platoon situation at third base.

It isn't known how much Crede's deal will be worth, but it is expected to be incentive-laden. Minnesota press has reported that's it's likely to top out at $7 million, including incentives.
