dbaho....i like your standings alot, i think thats a good prediction of what could happen with one exception, and thats the houston astros....i was shocked when i heard on the radio the other day that they won 86 games last year. Thats only 3 fewer than we won! (whcih really tells you how BAD the NL was last year). I think they are likely to regress a bit, but i dont expect them to be 20 games worse

I just don't like the makeup of that team at all.

Besides Oswalt, they've got no good starting pitching. They've lost Ty Wigginton who put up a .876 OPS for them last season. I don't expect Kas Matsui to hit over .290 again also, but they have upgraded at the catchers spot at least with I-Rod.

That offense is going to have to carry that team is they want to be over .500 again, as that's a lot of pressure to put on Lee and Berkman. Tejada is getting worse also, but Bourn and Pence should probably improve on last season at least.

We still don't have a reliable set up man to Bobby.

Lexi has an awful spring defensively at ss making Oz wonder what to do.

Dye has another good year since he's Jermaine f***ing Dye.

Paulie starts slowly and gets booed out of the Cell.

CQ becomes even more of a fan favorite and keeps our lineup scary. Lexi hits no matter how bad his D is.

We contend.

These were my predictions. It's cool to re-read what all of us loudmouths thought in preseason.

I'm wrong on the setup man. Our relievers have been pretty good. I even like Dotel this year. 0-for-1.

Lexi has been good defensively. 0-for-2

Dye is Dye 1-for-3

Paulie has been great 1 for 4.

CQ has been out 1 for 5.

Lexi has not hit this year for the most part 1 for 6

We contend (maybe) so I'm 2 for 7 or 1-for-7. That really sucks.

What are all of you??

Ok, normally I don't do this, but what the hell.

- Much to Soxtalk's chagrin, Jerry Owens starts the season in CF for the Sox, and his play is acceptable.

- Paul Konerko starts off slow as usual but bounces back big.

- John Danks pitches the first 2/3ish of the season looking like a Cy Young contender but has a dead-arm period.

- Gavin Floyd will still walk more batters than we're comfortable with but will be otherwise just fine.

- Mark Buehrle will struggle because the defense is piss-poor.

- Bobby Jenks will have another effective, statistically good season. Posters will continue to b**** about his non-existent decline in performance.

To hell with it, why not.

1 - Way off on Owens but I didn't have any way of knowing back in February that Owens would underperform so badly and regress so far. I said this because we didn't have anything even remotely resembling a leadoff hitter besides him, I wasn't ready to count Lillibridge, and a retarded chimp could've told you Wise was going to fail in the leadoff spot. I was trying to be generous giving him the benefit of the doubt from the progress he made in '07. Well, that's all gone.

2 - Paulie came storming out of the gates. I was wrong about a slow start, but this prediction wasn't really wrong. Paulie's back.

3 - TBD. He's had 3 really bad outings that ballooned his ERA followed by 3 really good ones. Too early to tell. He has about a 2:1 K:BB ratio though and when he's not coughing up 6 runs per start, he looks fine with his command.

4 - Ready to say I whiffed on this because Buehrle has been lights out. The D hasn't been as bad as I thought. Fields has been atrocious and Betemit even worse, but Alexei's all right, Getz is good (and Nix is AWESOME when he plays), Paulie's been great defensively. Outfield's been ok, although Dye is still brutal out there. Wise isn't terrible but he tries his best to make himself look good with unnecessary jumps and dives.

5 - Bobby is Bobby, and yes, the usual posters are b****ing, about what I don't know.

Do we really want another pisser "can't beat a rookie" post game thread? I don't believe I bumped the other threads, just linked them.

GoogleSmiley.gif

Did you even make any predictions in this thread, where you want to point out where people are wrong? Risk nothing, then criticize the people who have balls that you don't?

Does the phrase "get a life" mean anything to you?

I just looked at mine, and they are more wrong than right. So the f*** what?

For the record, since that seems to be so important, S/D made no posts in this thread until he bumped it. It takes a real man to not have any convictions, yet be willing to point out when others are wrong. :lolhitting

God, heaven forbid we have some fun after losing a yet another game to a no name pitcher with some posters in the game thread quitting on the team in the 5th inning.

These threads always get bumped around Memorial Day or the ASB. Usually by Knightni with a " " smilie. It's fun to review these with the amount of posters (myself included) who act like armchair GMs or managers and there are a handful who complain about it thinking the posters are trying to act like they're better than Sox management.

I know it is fun to try to show up the guys you don't like, but it also gets boring after a while. Its one thing to bump a thread, but it is quite another to target specific people repeatedly. Besides if you can't take the heat of being called on it, after calling out other people, you probably take your own cute advice and lighten up yourself.

I'm only going to do a few...

- CQ will have a better 2009 than 2008.

- Owens will stay as our CF and lead-off man all season.

- Fields will be a top 10 3B in the MLB by the end of the season.

:lolhitting I was indeed bold.

Who specifically am I targeting, and why should I tolerate getting called out on something that isn't true about myself? That's stupid.

How many people predicted Beckham would be with the team before the Crosstown classic? Probably not many, but that doesn't mean I think they're stupid. In fact if you look back you will probably find the people who DID think he would be with this team much sooner than later were considered the silly ones.

My prediction for sometime in the next week to a month. Dewayne Wise will be sent down or released. The White Sox will make a big deal about how its a shame he hurt his shoulder as he was just about to take off as a player. Like a guy with Wise's track record is going to hit .300 with 25 homers.
