He makes Dye look like a gold glover. It just cracks me up the Cubs are stuck with Soriano, Zambrano, Bradley, Fukodome for big money for a long time. They've actually been halfway competent this decade. I believe they've only had two losing seasons since 2001. They have too many teams they have to play too many games better than, and no matter how easy their schedule is, the Cubs are still a bad baseball team. And at what point will you stop predicting future Cub dominance? Extremely easy schedule? Did they not just lose 2/3 to the Nationals at home? 5 months is more than enough of a sample size to come to a reasonable conclusion about what you are as a team. And they're basically crap. I just think they are incredibly mediocre and have been that way consistently almost all season. That is more than can be said for our guys, unfortunately. I can't give you hard evidence the Sox have quit other than my opinion (although that doesn't look as smart after 3 wins in a row). The Sox have made major overhauls and improvements to their talent level during this season (even with Peavy hurt), and are still not playing any better somehow. As for the Cubs, the reason I don't think they have quit is I honestly don't think they are underachieving, I just think they are as bad as they have played. Now, to be legitimately THAT bad with a 140 million dollar payroll or whatever they have is a major indictment on Jim Hendry, who should probably be fired.
