Balta1701
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) Top of the order for the Cubs (Soriano and Fukudome) have nearly a 2.4 OPS combined. Fukudome was on fire in April 08 also, and got worse month by month.
fathom
It's really too bad Piniella didn't name Marmol the Cubs closer. He's such an equalizer in the 7th and 8th inning.
daa84
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 04:55 PM) It's really too bad Piniella didn't name Marmol the Cubs closer. He's such an equalizer in the 7th and 8th inning. lou uses him perfectly....brings him in during the games toughest moments....i actually wish more teams would do that with their best reliever in the pen... although that cubs pen is gonna be really bad when marmols arm falls off in august

fathom
And just like that, Marmol hangs a couple of sliders and Cards tie it up. I love when teams don't bunt!

Balta1701
Hmph, didn't know the Cards brought Rasmus up. How are they finding AB's for all those OF's I wonder?
fathom
Funny I mentioned the bunt thing above, because in the situation with a weak, speedy guy like Thurston batting, you have to bunt to get the runner to 3rd with less than 2 outs.

How are they finding AB's for all those OF's I wonder? i think he made the team out of camp... who the hell is thurston?
fathom
Wow, the called 3rd on Thurston wasn't even close. If you go back to Fukudome's walk in the 5th inning, that pitch was significantly worse than the ones called a ball to Fuku.
fathom
Rasmus has looked overmatched at the plate when I've seen him hit this season. I still can't believe he didn't have Thurston bunt, as they would have loaded the bases for Skip. Edited April 18, 2009 by fathom

daa84
i'll bet the cubs fans who stood up thinking soriano hit a HR on that little flair into very shallow left field feel really really stupid
fathom
Why do teams keep throwing Fukudome fastballs to hit? He proved last year that he can't hit anything offspeed.

ThunderBolt
QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 06:09 PM) i think he made the team out of camp... who the hell is thurston? Thurston's been around for a while. He's a minor league veteran, almost Wise-esque, but he's hit the crap out of the ball in the minors. He and Nick Green have inspired hope for many this year.
