fathom
Lilly vs Chris Young when wind is blowing out tonight. Should be about 10 homers hit. Also, no one seems to notice how bad the Cardinals are playing these days. Haha, Soriano and Theriot go back-to-back. Wrigley's a freaking joke. Also, no one seems to notice how bad the Cardinals are playing these days. Haha, Soriano and Theriot go back-to-back. Wrigley's a freaking joke. The Cards are playing about as bad as the Cubs were just a couple weeks ago. And? There's 130 games or so left in the season. I'm not crowning the Cubs just because they're on a hot streak and the Cardinals are on a cold one. And what I want to know is why nobody is talking about the Reds? They've got arguably better starting pitching and unquestionably a better bullpen.

JustWin
So the Cubs beat Jake Peavy and Chris Young while the Cards lose 2 to the Pirates. That's just swell. Soriano is on fire.
Jordan4life_2007
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 14, 2009 -> 02:28 AM) They're just starting to hit as well. Brandon Phillips is on fire. Willy Taveras, who nobody wanted any part of, is hitting .322 with a .382 OBP. Also 10/11 in stolen base attempts. He's also playing well above average defense in CF. Quite a signing by them to this point. Edited May 14, 2009 by Jordan4life
Balta1701
The Brewers are the hottest team in the NL right now. They're something like 16-5 in their last 21 games.

Yeah, it's hard to gauge if the Cubs are getting in a groove or if this Pads team is really that bad, Cubs just came off losing 2 out of 3 to the Crew in Milwaukee. With their injuries and their shaky bullpen, I don't see them running away with this division Edited May 14, 2009 by SoxFan562004

Is there a way to find out their opponents ERA? Because it could be ballpark/conditions swayed. I'm not doubting the Cubs are a good team, but I just think they have some flaws this year, and the division might not be as terrible as I thought it would be. Also, pitching is everything, you need to score runs to win games too, and A-Ram will be a big loss for them

The Brewers, Cardinals, Reds, and Mets all have similar records to the Cubs, and until you tell me how the injuries are going to work out or which teams are going to be buyers at the deadline (the Cubs have nothing to offer except money), it certainly seems like they're no where near as far ahead of the rest of the league as they were last year. If the NL East is just beating each other up...the Central has 4 teams with virtually identical records.

If the NL East is just beating each other up...the Central has 4 teams with virtually identical records. You don't need much now a days to get something decent in return. Example, the Cubs traded a bag o' crap to Oakland for Rich Harden last year. In my opinion Milwaukee still has the best chance of knocking them off if the Brew Crew can pick up some pitching (Peavy) at the deadline. Not sold on the Cardinals or Reds even though the Reds might be a year away from being a contender with their young pitching.

Wouldn't you agree though that the Cubs offense to start the year was about as bad as it was going to be? Lee and Bradley aren't going to hit under .200 all year, and it's likely Soto will pick it up. The Cubs aren't as good as they were last year, but none of the teams in the division are.
