Rex Hudler
If Bonds didn't WANT to take part in the HR Derby, he could have been honest and said that, and not insinuated that his father's health was the reason. I'll never try to defend Bonds mouth, but I think we are getting two separate instances mixed up here. If I am wrong, please correct me. Bonds never used his father's illness as an excuse or reason why he didn't want to be in the HR Derby. He simply said he didn't want to. Bonds (or someone speaking for him) had hinted earlier that he might not play in the All-Star Game at all because of the illness. But when it came down to it, he played (which must mean Bobby is doing much better, which is good). I think the two issues are separate. The only quotes I saw relating to the HR Derby were something to the effect of "I don't want to. I am adult and I don't have to do anything I don't want". You'r right.. he never used his dad as an excuse. As for being there at all.. his dad was with him Monday afternoon. In a wheelchair next to the Sox dugout. He looks OK. Better then when I saw him in June. Hopefully he's doing better. As for missing it all together.. does everyone forget what a gamer Bobby was..? He would never, EVER miss being at a game and I'm sure that was relayed to Barry.

IlliniBob72
The home run derby throws off player's swings - witness PK last year, and since. So now the reason PK is scuffling is because he took part in last season's HRD? Wow. So, how many swings does he need to recover from the 25 or so he took in that? Can we expect him to start producing next season...or the season after that?

I don't expect much in comprehension skills from anyone involved with the Illini. I did not state that PK's current problems were caused by last year's Home Run Derby, but get out stats, if you can, and look at what PK did prior to the 2002 home run derby and then, after - that is when his downturn began. Swinging for the fences exclusively does throw off the swing - which is why we get unhappy when in a game our batters swing away at the fences rather than make contact and get hits. Why his problems have continued is not something that I have ther explanation for. But his problems began with the home run derby. That is fact and you can look it up. Sox1422
I boo'd On Sunday Pie- Cub Prospect Kelton- Cub Prospect Sandberg- Cub Banks- Cub (I'm sure I'll get s*** for that one, but he is a Cub, hell he is " Mr. Cub") Monday Kerry Wood and Mark Prior when they came out of the dug out for BP. Tuesday Dusty- Cub Prior- Cub Wood- Cub Guardado- Twin MacDougal- Royal Gardenhire- Twin C.C. Sabathis- Indian From where I was at, the only guys boo'd were divisional rivals and Cubs. There was a smattering of boos for Giambi and Bonds. Oh, and Veritek got an ear full.
cwsox
cmon now, booing has been part of the game for decades. it not one sport but many of them basketball, esp on the college level, hockey it is part of the game. you cheer your players and boo the visiting team. if the booing had been confined to the visitors team players - the NL squad - none of this discussion might be happening. But I would suggest there is a difference between havcing the twiunkies or cubs or yankees come ionto our hosue for a regualr season game and hosting the All Stars. I booed the cub all stars with everyone else - that is Chicago for you. But to boo so many others - classless. IMHO. And in my less than humble opinion also. Tuesday Dusty- Cub Prior- Cub Wood- Cub Guardado- Twin MacDougal- Royal Gardenhire- Twin C.C. Sabathia- Indian There was a lot more booing for a lot more folks where I was sitting - with the addition of Varitek your list isn't bad at all and if it had been confined there, I'd have no problem with it, all rivals and the guy who beat out Frank int he 32nd man voting. I heard a lot of booing for Bonds, the Cards (why, they play the cubs), LaRussa (wtf was that about?) and others. And that was what I was and am unhappy about - anmd especially unahppy with the booing of our own, JM. Boo him 81 home games all one wants, but in my opinion, not at the All Star game. Everyone around me gave Larussa a huge ovation. Plus, there were a ton of Cub fans there. They were the ones booing the Cards. I think I had a Sox dominated section. I know there were a lot of first time season ticket holders (like myself) that got stuck up there.

Mathew
On opening day I heard White Sox fans boo the s*** out of Gordon,Koch,Kimm,White Manuel and some others. Sox fans are brutal, but those players laughed and smiled and cashed their salaries for that series, damn close to what I make in a year if not more. It's not a padgent, no awards for class in the stands. Sox fans are very classy in other ways, very knowlegable, actually paying attention to the game, cheering when appropriate. LDF
anyhow, who is to say that it was all sox fans doing the booing, could there not have been other fans from other city booing their rival players. i was taught at an early age by my brother and i have taught my kids on booing, it a light hearted gesture to support your team. then we eat some hot dogs and drank some soda and watch a nice game of baseball, so how is that classless.
