HuskyCaucasian
I suppose we can use this thread to talk all things "NBC Late Night" in the coming few months, but i thought this was interesting... Andy Richter is reuniting with Conan O’Brien, signing on to serve as announcer for Mr. O’Brien’s new incarnation of “The Tonight Show.” NBC is expected to announce the decision later today. Mr. Richter and Mr. O’Brien entered the pop culture landscape together in 1993, with Mr. Richter serving as sidekick to Mr. O’Brien when Mr. O’Brien took over from David Letterman as host of NBC’s “Late Night.” Mr. Richter left “Late Night” in 2000 to focus on acting. On “Tonight,” Mr. Richter will not be a nightly desk-side presence as he was on “Late Night.” He will, however, participate in both live and pre-taped comedy bits. “Andy is one of the funniest people I know, and we’ve maintained a close friendship since he left ‘Late Night,’” Mr. O’Brien said. “We have a proven chemistry that will be an incredible asset to ‘The Tonight Show.’” What’s more, there’s a practical reason for Mr. Richter to join the “Tonight Show” team. “He owes me $300,” Mr. O’Brien said. Mr. Richter was the last non-musical guest on the final edition of “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” last week.
knightni
I wonder if they're going to replace Max with La Bamba as band leader. Max probably wants to stay in NY since he tours with Bruce.
HuskyCaucasian
QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) I wonder if they're going to replace Max with La Bamba as band leader. Max probably wants to stay in NY since he tours with Bruce. hmmm.... good question. I tend to think they are moving as much of the "core" as possible. I am still worried they wont let Conan be Conan. I fear he'll need to be more "grown up" in his comedy.
Kalapse
Well Conan did announce on his show that Max and the band will come with him to California, I suppose things could change but as of now there's no reason to believe Max won't be on the Tonight Show. Kalapse
QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) So no more Joel?? He will definitely be missed. They showed a montage of his finest moments on Tuesday, you forget just how hilarious that guy is. You know you've got something special when just opening your mouth is hysterical. Milkman delivers
It's great that both Andy and the band are going to the new show. I always found Andy hilarious, even in his solo work (I'm one of the few). The band is great, and they'd be really missed if they didn't go to the new show. And it's a shame that Joel isn't going to LA. Conan said on his final show that he won't be changing to appease the earlier crowds, so let's hope he keeps that promise. Also, it was weird that they kept referring to them as Mr. Richter and Mr. O'Brien.

Yeah, I thought that too. Odd style.
RibbieRubarb
I had heard that Joel was going to retire... Will this move hinder Andy Ritcher's current job as star in failed TV pilots?

The Critic
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) Also, it was weird that they kept referring to them as Mr. Richter and Mr. O'Brien. When I saw that, I thought maybe the story was from the Wall Street Journal. They do the "Mr. _____" thing in their stories. Odd that tvweek.com would have that style. SleepyWhiteSox
All my favorite moments are probably 10 or more years old as I started to watch it in 6th grade (on Fridays and over the summers) and throughout high school but haven't in years. Much funnier back then, in my opinion. My Conan memories are: The Masturbating Bear, Pimp-Bot 5000, Carl "Oldy" Olson, the Gaseous Weiner, staring contests with Andy (after the '96 Olympics with Bela Carolyi and Kerri Strug impersonators making out), driving the desk with Andy, the Max-on-Max channel, the subtitles controller changing the channel to Spice Channel porn because the show is boring, Conan searching for his old, original furniture and finding his couch on a farm mating with another couch...
