That is what Getz can do for you. Could he lead off over Owens? Couldn't he have a higher OBP and OPS than Owens?

I don't see why not. If Getz could jut hit .280 with a .340 OBP he'd be a more valuable player than Owens and allow the Sox to put a defensive specialist in centerfield to help out the 2 below average defenders in the corners.

That was kind of my thought process. Otherwise you have 3 below average OFers out there.

I really like Getz's bat and his hustle on the basepaths. I wonder why he's not being considered as a lead-off candidate as well, like another poster said a few posts earlier. Getz seems to have the natural hustle for it.

By the end of camp, I would guess his name will be in the hat for leadoff.

It just makes too much sense not to be considered.

I remember feeling so bad for Mack back in '06 when Ozzie was forcing him to play CF. They'd interview him after the game and he'd come right out and say that he's incapable of playing centerfield but he'll continue to do what the manager asks of him. Mack was in an impossible position and it tarnished his reputation as a ballplayer in this city. He was actually a very good corner outfielder, he just couldn't handle center.

I gotta say, I didn't dislike Mackowiak. I actually liked him cause he was a hometown boy from Oak Lawn, which is where my dad's family is from.

I just thought Mackowiak was average. Nothing spectacular.

Is there any reason that Nix came out of the game so far early?

Coop will fix him! Trademark/copyright pending. 46 pitches to get one 4 outs. I wonder if there will be a make-good for all WGN's advertisers whose audience will be asleep by the time JVB is done struggling?

It depends on what your expectations were for him, in the role he's meant play he's probably above average and if Ozzie had thought outside the friggin box Mack would have made a very nice leadoff hitter in 2007. Nothing spectacular but he would have been a whole hell of a lot more valuable than Darin Erstad.

He played 1/2 the game. Getz gets the 2nd half.

Well, Nix only got to play three innings....typically the starters go five. Oh, well. Both of them will have plenty of opportunities to win the job the next 30 or so games.

Are we seeing the Josh Fields that was on pace for 50 homers and 100 +RBI's only two years ago? I don't think so, but what we are seeing is a more well-rounded hitter.

It is possible, he did have that 2 double game the other day where he did not seem to be swinging for the fences.
