I'm pretty sure Ozzie can't declare the competition dead for someone with 3 weeks to go. My guess is it has more to do with that than with Owens seriously being the frontrunner. Besides, just like KW, Ozzie needs to talk up these three in CF, because one or two of them probably will be waived/released/traded/optioned before Opening Day, and I'm sure they'd like to get something back for them if they can.
