At least 20 fire vehicles, people rolling out on stretchers, fire hoses in the bldg, Lasalle and Adams closed. Big crowd. Not sure what is going on. Building evacuated.

I know this is selfish but that means I am gonna be busy today. I hope this isnt as bad as it sounds.

I don't know anything else yet, but I have a view down LaSalle from the BOT, and I have never seen that much CFD equipment in one place before. The streets are filled with gear, firefighters, water, hoses, stretchers, etc. Must be a fire, other than that, no idea. I let my guy at the Trib know about it when I saw the response, no word yet from him as to what is going on exactly.

I can't give you details - its an MCI, so CFD will use their co-op channels, if you want to scanner jockey. But I only personally saw two victims, and no telling if they were serious injuries. So it could turn out to be small for you, or big, I can't say.

But that is a HUGE response from the city.

Firefighters evacuate high-rise in the Loop

March 17, 2009 10:32 AM | No Comments |

Firefighters evacuated a 22-story commercial building at 208 S. LaSalle St. this morning after responding to a call of a small fire on the 14th floor.

Fire Department Spokeswoman Eve Rodriguez said the call came in around 9:30 a.m. of smoke in a mechanical room. Smoke appeared on adjacent levels and floors 12 through 22 were being evacuated, she said. The other floors were vacant.

Paramedics transported one woman from the building to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition. Four people on the scene declined medical attention, she said.

As of about 10:30 a.m., hundreds of employees had streamed into the street, where more than a dozen fire department vehicles were stopped. There did not appear to be any external damage to the building.

A city press release in 2007 referred to the building as the Continental and Commercial National Bank building. It was designed by Daniel Burnham and built in 1914, two years after the famed architect's death, according to the statement.

One of Burnham's

Yeah, that was mentioned in the news clip above. I interviewed with IB a couple of years back, and got to see the insides of it. There is a beautiful courtyard/atrium in the middle, and all of the innerwindows look in on it. It also has a stairwell that goes through it.

I think Interactive Brokers is in the Rookery Building which was across the street from the fire.

That sould have been a big giveaway that it was the Continental bank building they were talking about!
