Dreams

I was hanging out with a few friends tonight and we started talking about dreams. I've had some dreams that I've died in them as a result of being stabbed, shot, or kind of like a video game where I died and came back to life at the start of the dream. I've only had a few of these so it's not a common occurance. One of the dreams where I died from being stabbed, I even witnessed my own funeral and saw my dead body in a casket which was very bizarre. I don't know what meanings behind dreams consist of, but I figure it has to mean something. I've even heard that you can die as a result of dying in your dream because your heart can't take it. Obviously I'm still alive right now, but none the less, it's pretty strange to have those dreams.

Another odd dream occured in early high school for me about 8 years ago. It was like a video game where we were battling the bad guys with some sort of guns. (I don't have much of an imagination, nor do I own any guns, and I also don't play video games often, so it makes this dream even more strange.) Some head guy was giving the orders to go in whatever direction he wanted us to. The place was kind of like a mall. Then once I graduated high school a few years later I had the same exact dream, except I was the person who was the head guy.

After all of this, what I'm wondering is if anyone knows interpretations of dreams, and I'm also curious to know other people's strange dreams.

"To dream of your own death, indicates a transitional phase in your life. You are becoming more enlightened or spiritual. Alternatively, you are trying desperately to escape the demands of your daily life. "

Also...

"To dream that you die in your dream, symbolizes inner changes, transformation, self-discovery and positive development that is happening within you or in your life. Although such a dreams may bring about feelings of fear and anxiety, it is no cause for alarm and is often considered a positive symbol. Dreams of experiencing your own death usually means that big changes are ahead for you. You are moving on to new beginnings and leaving the past behind. These changes does not necessarily imply a negative turn of events. Metaphorically, dying can be seen as an end or a termination to your old ways and habits. So, dying does not always mean a physical death, but an ending of something.

On a negative note, to dream that you die may represent involvement in deeply painful relationships or unhealthy, destructive behaviors. You may feeling depressed or feel strangled by a situation or person in your waking life. Perhaps your mind is preoccupied with someone who is terminally ill or dying. Alternatively, you may be trying to get out of some obligation, responsibility or other situation.

To see someone dying in your dream, signifies that your feelings for that person are dead or that a significant change/loss is occurring in your relationship with that person. Alternatively, you may want to repress that aspect of yourself that is represented by the dying person."

"To dream that you or someone commits a crime, represents feelings of guilt and shame. Your inner fears are hindering your growth and progress."

"To dream that you are a criminal, indicates that you are looking for a short cut in life. You are selling your self short and underestimating your own potential. "

"To dream that you are playing a video game, represents your ability to manipulate others into doing what you want them to do. Alternatively, it suggests that you are trying to escape and not confront the stress and problems in your real life. Consider the type of video game for additional insights.

To see or dream that you are a character in a video game, suggests that you are feeling controlled and manipulated by others. You feel that you have no control over your actions or are not taking responsibility for them."

You hate your life and want to change but are afraid to.

You're trying to manipulate things to achieve your goal, but you are failing for now and getting down on yourself.

You also secretly believe that your friends or family are holding you back from what you really want to do in life and it's killing you inside.

. . .

That'll be $50.

i had this one dream when i was little that I've ALWAYS remembered. it was when i was staying in a hotel with my parents. and all the dream was, was me sitting on the edge of a hotel bed (different hotel) with those scratchy crappy brown blankets. my legs were hanging over the bed and there was a beaver eating one of my knees. not just knawing on it, but like, pulling off really clean neat slices starting at the knee cap and getting larger as he got further down. and i just watched him. didn't hurt - i just watched him eat my knee.

interpret THAT baby.

I have dreams where I'm struggling a lot, or in trouble, or about to die, but I never actually die. I wake up right before. One time I was on trial for murder (I wasn't guilty, but my lawyer was having a hard time convincing them that I wasn't the guy for whatever reason) and I woke up right before the verdict was read. I used to have the dreams where I was falling and right before I'd hit the ground I'd wake up and jump up startled, but I haven't had one of those in a few years.

Don't normal people dream about getting laid and being rich? Can't I just have one of those every now and again?

no kidding, I don't think I've ever had a dream about getting laid, close to, yes, but actually, no. What the hell is up with that?

I had a crazy dream when I was a kid that my parents had an alligator pit surrounding their bed, however the alligators were pets and therefore ok to be around. Of course one of them did not like me and grabbed me when they were in the other room, and I had this crazy split screen view where I was being dragged under the bed and my parents were in the next room, but they couldnt hear me screaming.

Pretty terrifying for a 5 year old kid

I've heard some people can control their dreams without waking up. Can any of you do that? I mean, I think that would be the greatest thing ever. There have been a handful of occurrences where in the middle of a dream I realize what's happening is so ridiculous so I figure I must be in a dream and then I immediately wake up

To a large degree, I'm usually in control of the dreams I'm having just before I wake up. I'm vaguely aware I'm dreaming and i usually try very hard not to wake up so whatever absurd thing happening in the dream can be resolved. With only one or two exceptions, I've never been able to get back into a dream once I wake up and lose the thread of it.

Probably the oddest dream I ever had was as a real little kid. In the dream I learned that electricity from wall sockets actually worked because there was FIRE inside the walls of houses and buildings and when you plugged in a plug the fire heated it up and gave you electricity. That's weird on its own, but the dream then went on to reveal that the reason there was fire in all the walls was that the inside of the walls were all directly connected to HELL underneath the ground. The take-home message of the dream was that under no circumstances should you knock holes in walls because if you did then THE DEVIL could come through the holes and get you and drag you to hell.

I think that dream focked me up for like 5 years.

The first really vivid sex dream I ever had was early on in high school and it involved Annie Lennox letting me do dirty things with her in the hillside seating at a concert at Alpine Valley. Very weird.

Sweet Dreams are made of this.

Despite what some books might tell you, I think it is impossible to interperet someone else's dreams without knowing that person pretty well. Dreams are built with constructs and connections in your own head, and so the symbology and images and experiences you have are meaningful to YOU, not necessarily others. There may be some common themes, but none 100%.

That said...

Here's one, I had it a few times in college. I was in a fraternity house, running around it in circles. And there was snow on the ground, inside. I was chasing Sir George Solti, who was in a pair of polka dot shorts, and I was throwing snowballs at him.

Enjoy.

Were you a frustrated orchestral musician in another life?

That's an interesting one.

I've had some very screwed up dreams.

This year I had a dream that i was a WR for the Patriots and in practice i could always catch the ball from Tom Brady perfectly. But in games it seemed like I could never get it done. After I dropped this pass in the game I came over to the sidelines and Bellichick was yelling at me saying "why can you catch in practice but not in the game!". I just responded with an "I don't know coach". Then in the middle of the football field there was a tree all of a sudden. In the tree there was a cougar, and the cougar started chasing me, and when it caught me i woke up.

Also this year, I had a dream that me and 3 of my friends were running around a city wearing a bunch of military gear and we all had guns. It was like the whole country was in anarchy and we were part of some fighting force. So my friend Tom and I split from the other two and we went to the top of one of the buidings so we could like "zip-line" into an adjacent building, which was a hotel. So we zip lined onto the balcony and im the first through the glass door. There was a family of 4, the parents on the bed and the two young kids on the floor sleeping. So I whipped out a pistol and shot the two parents, then turned and killed the two kids. My friend Tom turned to me and yelled "why the f*** did you do that!?". Then i woke up. I don't know how in any way you can interpret that dream but i was so confused when i woke up.

A few weeks ago I had a dream I was talking with Bob Knight at a bar, that was pretty entertaining.

I can somewhat control my dreams. I can do that when I know it's a dream. Sometimes I realize something seems too far fetched and I know I'm dreaming. That way I can do crazy things and just do whatever I want. I also dream in color all the time. I've never had a black and white dream before. I know some people who dream in only black and white.

I always think it's weird when I wake up from an awesome dream (and am pissed that I woke up), so I go back to sleep and am able to pick up where my dream left off. That's always a great feeling to continue/finish a good dream.

I usually don't remember my dreams, but when I do they're strange.

I had a dream recently where there was this wide-eyed, scary looking doll at my friends house that seemed to be in every room I walked into. It was in the bathroom, in the kitchen, in the bedroom; everywhere. And no matter what, it was always looking at me. . So I said to myself, I'll just close my eyes; but when I closed my eyes I still saw the doll. It was as if I couldn't avoid it. I'm sure the obvious message here is there's something in my life I'm trying to avoid but can't.

What happens less frequently are moments when I'll wake up from a deep sleep and think to myself I'm seeing someone else in the room. Most of the time I'll come to my senses, but there have honesty been a few times I've freaked out and ran out of the room thinking someone else was in there with me. I want to say last year I did this, and I actually woke up my parents because I was yelling.

Interesting that this thread just popped up because my wife told me yesterday that she had a dream she kissed one of my friends, then today she said she had another dream in which she was kissing my brother.

Looks like its time to Mark to take care of some business.....
