daa84
It sounds as if Richard might be in the rotation to start the year, perhaps with colon on the DL. What happens to the bullpen? Who will be the second lefty behind Thornton? Right now it appears that the only two candidates are Randy Williams and Poreda. Is Randy Williams really going to make the team? I think Poreda will probably start at AAA, so is Williams really the answer? Or is it possible that we will only go with 1 lefty, especially given that Clayton could potentially be used as a swing man since we don't need a 5th starter all that often early on
SkokieSox
I think they'll take Poreda - KW likes giving possible future starters a taste of the bigs in the pen before officially making them starters.
Jimmywins1
Randy Williams has been impressive, I wouldn't mind giving him a shot.
MEANS
Colon on the DL???? What happened did I miss something?
YASNY
QUOTE (MEANS @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) Colon on the DL???? What happened did I miss something? Nothing "happened". He's just topping out at about 87 on his fastball. He'll probably need time to get back in pitching shape.
elrockinMT
QUOTE (MEANS @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 04:58 PM) Colon on the DL???? What happened did I miss something? I am not sure it was the DL, but I did hear that possibly he might need more time to build up arm strength. I think it was just discussion and there are still thoughts being entertained that he will be reay by opening day. However, early in the season the 5th starter is not as needed as later. Colon has not been placed on the DL. It's speculation at this point.

witesoxfan
Calling Poreda up now is starting his clock early. It's not always popular, as the common belief is that you go with the best 25 men you can, but there is something to be said for waiting a month to start a player's clock. I haven't been paying very close attention, and I understand that Marquez could very likely make the team, but why would he not start while having Richard? I guess I'm just a little lost, even though I'm aware that Marquez was lit up not that long ago.
