Yeah, I've been to Vegas 7 times since 1999, and I'm pretty sure that I havent had a winning trip yet. Does that mean that i had no fun? f*** no!! I love every minute out there, but rest assured, you aren't gonna make enough money gambling to retire and move to the desert. I lose, and yet I still go twice a year...cause its too damn fun not to go.

Dude i have no plans or dreams to make money in vegas gambling. I may go hit the blackjack table occasionally for entertainment, but ive already been through my gambling phase. Its almost impossible to make money that way, let alone make a living. I will let the fools try that road............

Quite the contrary. A professional black jack player can make a ton of money in Vegas. Of course, these are the best players in the world, not just your average Joe Shmoe. But, for us non-professionals, you're right -- it's a losing battle indeed.

I tried to count cards one night. Its very very distracting and takes a lot of concentration. Something i do not have a lot of.............

There are only 2 ways to make money gambling in Vegas, Sports betting and Poker. A profeassional black Jack player? What the hell is that? When I went I bet on the Sox vs. Pedro, with a 2-10 Mark B on the hill. They were plus 190 so I turned 100 into 300, that turned out to be a hard night on the liver!!!

Do some research. The game that gives you the best odds (or one of the best) is blackjack. And there are methods (card counting, as Bmr said) that if you perfect, you can make a friggin' killing. But like Bmr said, card counting is not easy, and not only do you have to perfect it, but you have to perfect your technique, as if the casino catches you, you will be asked to leave and will be put in their database as a card counter, and will not be allowed to gamble there again.

Ya, Blackjack is the best. The professionals don't really count cards, but they know the deck. They'll remember if a lot of low cards are out, so they know when to hit and all those type of things and then when they know they are in good position that a lot of high or low cards are up in the deck, they start betting a lot and they win most of the time cause they have a really good guess of whats there.

Now if you really know sports you can also be able to bet on it. The key is not letting personal allegiance to a team effect your way of picking.

Yeah but that only really works where they use limited amount of decks. These days, thats not easy to find.

That, too, is true. Many casinos today use like 5 decks, which makes keeping track of s*** virtually impossible. But, if you look hard, you can still find places that use 2 or 3 decks -- making it much easier to keep track of what's going on. Maybe that's why they have all the hot cocktail waitresses in skimpy outfits -- to distract the would be card counters. :)

Black jack has better odds than sports yes, but, you'll find a "pro" sports bettor or poker player before a pro black jack player, unless you're the Rainman it's danm near impossible to count cards in Vegas.

I'd say that's because betting on sports is much more fun and entertaining than betting on a game of cards. At least when you bet on a game, you can sit back with some Stoli and get a good 2-3 hours of entertainment while you lose your money. :D
