Who was that guy??

The neighborhood where I live is extremely dark at night, you could run over a pedestrian and never even see them. The other night about 11:30pm as I was about to pull into the garage, out of nowhere, I see a flashlight quickly coming toward me. As it gets within about 5 feet of my car, I finally am able to see the guy who is holding it. He's dressed in camouflage pants, combat boots, a "Sheriff' T shirt, a cap and a belt with a bunch of stuff hanging off of it, maybe a gun, didn't look closely enough. As I open the car door, he shoves a piece of paper with a guy's mug shot on it in my face and asks: "have you seen this guy". Stunned and kind of scared honeslty, I jump back and reply "No". He flips the page to a full page picture of the guy and asks me again "Are you sure? Take a good look?" I look closely this time, "No, what's this all about?" "How long have you lived here?" "Over two years", I reply. "Thank you" he says, darts off and dissapears into the darkness. NO VEHICLE. The entire situation was over in like 30 seconds, dude was in a hurry.

Was this a bounty hunter, or WTF?

If his shirt said "Sheriff", then then he'd better the hell not be a bounty hunter/skip tracer, because that would be illegal. Can't impersonate a cop that way.

The fact that you didn't see a vehicle may not be meaningul, if his car was elsewhere and he lost someone in a foot chase.

Who knows though. Could be some nut job, could be a cop.

So this dude was on your property?

I'd be pissed off.

We don't have sidewalks here. Our garages are in the front of the house, so we pull into our garages from the street. Unless you're walking in the street, you're kinda always on someone's property.

It sounds like some plot line to an Unsolved Mysteries episode. After everything unfolded you should have talked to the police about your experience. They probably would have said someone matching that description died several hours before you supposedly met them. It's at that moment a picture is shown of the person you saw, dead, and your wide-eyed expression would have just blankly look off into the area he disappeared as the theme music plays.

Something similar happened to me about a year ago. I wake up to all these voices and lights in my backyard. And I look out my bedroom window (it was about 3am) and see several people looking through my shed and yard. I call the police immediately and they tell me they're looking for a "person of interest" in the area. Despite all the commotion my monster dog did not bark once. She is not the best watchdog.
