Jerry Angelo should offer whatever it takes, this year and next year's 1st round picks and 2 or a 3 next year. I could see the Broncos having interest in Orton, Forte, or Briggs as well.

This is just one of those moments where you have to take the big chance. Honestly, this core of players is not going to get you a Superbowl, and Angelo should see that... I think you completely overhaul the team when you make a move like this and position yourself to make a serious run at the big game a few years down the road.

Angelo said that you win because of the QB position... this is the time to at least test out that theory.

If there is a move to be made and Angelo remains passive... he should be tied to Orton's performance and ultimately terminated if (when) that plan fails.

sorry to make this a thread. Definitely a lot of quality posters at soxtalk, just wanted to acknowledge one of the best posts I ever read here. This post was made over two weeks ago btw

There is actually earlier discussion around March 1 in the NFL off season thread.

I think you (rangercal) said to offer a 1st and a 2nd, Murcie said to offer whatever it takes.

Its just strange that a month later it actually happened.

McDaniels must be pissed. He had Cutler, tried to trade for Cassell, now he has Orton because he tried to trade for Cassell. LOL

Yeah, four first round picks over the next two drafts must really be eating at him!

s***, they can just take Mark Sanchez now if they really want to or wait till next year.. either way, trading Cutler has pretty much given them plenty to build their team off of..

Orton is meh, but at least he can fill in until they get their guy..

I disagreed vehemently with the "whatever it takes" part though. Still do.

Like, say in order to get this done we needed to offer another first... I'd say no.

Since we have such an amazing track record of drafting quality first round picks

Yeah let's just insert random interpretations of what I meant by that. Come on now.

I can play this game too. If they asked for all of our first rounders until 2015, Angelo should've done it since he would've wasted them anyway! f*** it, Cutler baby!

That's basically the card the pro "Give them whatever they want for Cutler" guys played from day one. lol. But it was irrelevant then and even more so now. Like you, I will not back down from my original stance. You don't just give up anything for anybody. I don't care who it is.

Now, as far as the trade goes, I am absolutely thrilled. Much props to Jerry Angelo and co for going out there and seizing an opportunity that rarely ever comes along. We've, at least for the next three years, solved this franchise's most glaring hole since, well, forever. Is this a risk-free trade? I don't think so. Two first rounders and a third rounder is a steep price to pay. Can we get Jay the weapons that he and any star QB would need to be the best they can be? Nobody knows yet. Cutler is immensely talented. Nobody argues that. But look at what this guy had around him in Denver. He doesn't have anything remotely close to that in Chicago. But Jerry Angelo has definitely earned the benefit of the doubt for now.

Right. Never once was I against trading for Cutler, nor was I against paying a large price tag to do so, in fact I wanted Angelo to do it. You want a 25-year old Pro Bowl QB, then you have to be prepared to roll the dice, they don't just fall out of the sky. I just saw people throwing out self-defeating epic fail-caliber proposals and I couldn't help but to facepalm. You don't do that. Just no. As it is, Angelo gave up a lot of value to get a lot of value, but he still has plenty of picks to work with.
