scenario
Infante named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week KANNAPOLIS, NC- Intimidators right-hander Greg Infante was named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week after a blistering start to the 2009 season. Over the first week of the campaign, Infante (1-0) pitched 12 scoreless innings over two starts. The 21-year-old out of Caracas, Venezuela started the season in stunning fashion, striking out 11 over six no-hit innings on Opening Night. The award, which includes the opening week and a half of the season (April 8-19), is the first for Infante in the South Atlantic League. He was also named Appalachian League pitcher of the week on August 4, 2008. Infante is next scheduled to pitch in Tuesday's series opener with the Greenville Drive at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. scenario
Also... after 11 games, Kannapolis pitching has a 1.27 team ERA. And a 0.88 WHIP.
BearSox
AA has all the hitting and a little pitching talent, while Kanny has all the starting pitching and a little hitting talent. Hopefully within the coming years, it will be a nice balance of awesome all around for all 6 of our affiliates. (Including Poreda, Ely, Omogrosso, Harrell, Santeliz, Nunez...) They're 3rd out of 10 teams in the Southern League with a 2.85 team ERA. (The league leader has a 2.60. So the Barons are not that far from the top spot.) Edited April 21, 2009 by scenario

ChiSox_Sonix
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 11:47 AM) Don't they have a monster of a ballpark though? Ya whether we have pitching talent or not there, they always seem to have pretty decent pitching statistics.
scenario
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) Don't they have a monster of a ballpark though? It may not be a great park for hitting homeruns, but tough to say the park is responsible for the good ERAs when the Barons are putting up runs in it. Hard to say it's a bad hitting park, but we can hit well there. Plus all the teams we've played so far are in the top 1/2 of the league offensively... no dogs yet. False Alarm
didn't see this anywhere and this seems like as good a thread as any to put this in. BA named gregory infante their "helium watch" player in last week's prospect hot sheet. it's for players whose prospect status is on the rise. some slight description of his arsenal, which i hadn't heard anything about, in the blurb: GREGORY INFANTE, RHP WHITE SOX Team: low Class A Kannapolis (South Atlantic) Age: 21 Why He's Here: 1-0, 0.00, 2 GS, 12 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 13 SO The Scoop: Infante is easy to overlook because his path to prospectdom has been an unusual one. He required three seasons to escape short-season ball, and he signed out of Venezuela at age 18, about two years later than most Latin Americans ink their first pro contracts. He drew the Opening Day start for the Intimidators, and he certainly has lived up to his team's nickname. Infante hurled six hitless innings at Asheville to open the year, striking out 11. Though his strikeout total declined to two in start No. 2, he used low- to-mid-90s heat and a promising curveball to again shut out the opposition over six innings. Overall, Infante has limited Sally League batters to an .086 average (3-for-35) and has kept the ball on the ground (6.0 G/F). http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...009/267976.html
