Didn't realize his first start in AA was all the way back in 2006.

Yep, he made two starts after a promotion from W-S and pitched a total of about 5 innings. He hurt his back, and we didn't see him again until a year ago.

I just noticed that Christian Marrero and his 1st round draft-pick brother are both playing in the Carolina League this year.

And Christian is outhitting him by about 100 points right now. Nice.

A little sibling rivalry fueling his batting surge maybe? :)

His brother is repeating, Christian is in his first go round in High A.

I watched the Charlotte game, Phillips had his first homer in the 3rd, then his second in the 4th. Which was followed by Restovich and Castillo with theirs. Although Kroeger was in between, so it wasn't back to back to back, just two of the homers were in a row. Apparently Jeff Marquez has been placed on the DL.

The first thing I noticed is that they appear to have great chemistry. It was public school day, so the park was full of kids. They were playing the cha-cha slide before the game during stretches. Cook and Gartrell danced for a couple minutes, they all looked like they were having fun. Retherford's and Flowers' hrs were line drives that moved so fast I was barely able to keep sight of. The team seems to excel at hitting line drives. Gordon made a great pick on a play to his right, and Dayan made a strong throw on a ball that ate him up. Dayan is similar to Alexei in that he can make contact on what seems like any pitch. However, he hits them up, whereas Alexei hits them down. Also like Alexei, he really needs to work on his pitch recognition. Good bat speed though. Allen is very solid on all dimensions. I feel bad for Retherford, he looks really good but it seems he'll be blocked at any position. Gartrell has a great eye. He sees a ton of pitches. Shelby has wiry power. Solid baserunning all around.

Had a chat with a friend of CJ's mom, she brought him brownies. He was unhappy last year because apparently his teammates didn't care too much about being a mediocre team. I would imagine he's happier now. He and his family are looking at an ETA of 2 years. I think he might make it as a IF-sub in September. He got in trouble with his mom last year because he swore at an ump.

My seats were next to the Barons' dugout, so not really that good for observing the pitching. They all seem to have good mound presence and are definitely aware of the runners, unlike our starting 5.

Hmmm.... could create a spot in the rotation for... Freddy Garcia. :)

Why not? If nothing else, it might entertain Charlotte fans for awhile.

If the Mets don't want him and he's getting lit up in AAA, I wouldn't hold my breath. More than likely, Cassel and Egbert go into the rotation to fill Marquez and Broadway's spots, and Keith Ginter is activated from the DL to fill the last open roster spot.

I would just like to say that this is the most active I've seen the minor league board in a couple years, and I love it. So many years I've followed the minors and sometimes you'd get 2 or 3 replies in a gameday thread. Now, we're going 2-3 pages some days. I guess that's bound to happen, though, when KW finally restocks the minors.

Agreed, it's awesome.
