knightni
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ May 1, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) No BA??? It's not as good of a poll with Anderson in it.
Kalapse
I always thought Luis Terrero played a damn good CF for us in '07. Darin Erstad is also missing.
Buehrle>Wood
Terrero was my boy. I remember he hit 5 HRs very quickly, and then did nothing the rest of the year once he found regular playing time. He was decent in the field from what I recall.
GoSox05
That list makes me wanna puke. I'm not counting Alexi, cause he has barely played CF for us.
Balta1701
To protect capitalism and its interests, I went with Mackowiak.

Erstad was never that bad defensively, I guess the memory of him losing that ball in the lights stuck with a lot of people. I'm surprised that so far people think Mackowiak was better than Swisher out there.

Yeah I remember Erstad being pretty good out there, he f***ed up more than a few easy plays but overall I suppose he got the job done. shipps
I am still wondering when one Jason Gage is going to make a thread about how he thinks Brian Anderson is the best defensive CF in baseball right now.
hawkubes
Actually according to baseball-refence.com Dewayne Wise has been a plus defender throughout his career (including 2008), and Anderson has been about average according to their calculations. Wise's total fielding runs above avg. was 4.0 and Anderson's was -1.8 in 2008. In 5 years in the outfield, anderson is .5 runs above average, while Wise is 9.0 runs above average in his 6 seasons in the outfield. I know everybody's gonna jump all over this, but it's statistical analysis. I think Dewayne Wise is a lot better out there than people give him credit for. I actually voted for Terrero, and got to thinking that Wise really hasn't been that bad. I got curious and checked out the stats, of the ones I checked out, Wise and Erstad were the best according to those numbers. By the way, Swisher is atrocious (-14.8 last year) and Ryan Sweeney is also below average according to this analysis.
fathom
For the eye test, Swisher was the tallest midget defensively. I would say Owens would be 2nd, with Mackowiak dead last.
SoxFan1
I was at the game where Terrero hit a monster HR underneath the Fundamentals thing against the Rays.

The Jamie Shields game. One of the most "out of nowhere" homers I can remember. Of course the biggest one like that will likely be shown during the Sox highlights tonight with our #9 hitter. Give 'em hell Pods!
NorthSideSox72
I don't remember Terrero enough, so I couldn't vote for him. Lexi still hadn't adjusted yet either. So it was a contest between Griffey (who knows the position well and still has a cannon), and Owens (who aside from the noodle arm is clearly the best among the remaining). I went with Owens.
