lostfan
QUOTE (hawkubes @ May 1, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) Actually according to baseball-refence.com Dewayne Wise has been a plus defender throughout his career (including 2008), and Anderson has been about average according to their calculations. Wise's total fielding runs above avg. was 4.0 and Anderson's was -1.8 in 2008. In 5 years in the outfield, anderson is .5 runs above average, while Wise is 9.0 runs above average in his 6 seasons in the outfield. I know everybody's gonna jump all over this, but it's statistical analysis. I think Dewayne Wise is a lot better out there than people give him credit for. I actually voted for Terrero, and got to thinking that Wise really hasn't been that bad. I got curious and checked out the stats, of the ones I checked out, Wise and Erstad were the best according to those numbers. By the way, Swisher is atrocious (-14.8 last year) and Ryan Sweeney is also below average according to this analysis. Defensive stats aren't really as useful when you're not talking about nearly a full season's worth of innings.
Paint it Black
I wish Sox fans would forget about Aaron Rowand.

justBLAZE
I hate to bring up Ryan Sweeney, but he's been robbing people left and right last two games. *sigh*

bmags
Me thinks Swisher's sudden hit spree has now caused a re-assessment of his time in Chicago with rose-tinted glasses. He was awful.
hawkubes
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 1, 2009 -> 07:17 PM) Defensive stats aren't really as useful when you're not talking about nearly a full season's worth of innings. But they are somewhat useful when stats from one partial season are consistent to what that part-time player has done throughout his career. bmags
2008 was a more relatable, everyman Griffey.
Felix
QUOTE (Texsox @ May 2, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) I'm going with the future hall of famer You do realize this thread says best defensive CF, not most dreamy CF... right? I honestly have no idea how anyone can say Griffey was a better defensive CF than Swisher (or some of these other options, for that matter) unless they were blind or stuck in the mid/late 90's. I honestly have no idea how anyone can say Griffey was a better defensive CF than Swisher (or some of these other options, for that matter) unless they were blind or stuck in the mid/late 90's. I couldn't agree more. Griffey was putrid in CF (outside of the great throw he made in the play-in game) last year. I kinda agree with Kalapse, though. I don't have any stats/metrics to back up his claim. But using just my eyes, I thought LT was solid in CF.

WilliamTell
I went with Griffey only because of the play in game throw. Obviously that shouldn't be the only reason to pick someone, but that list is terrible. Edited May 3, 2009 by WilliamTell
