I'm not so sure about your last addition there. Rickey Henderson can flat out play the game of baseball. And at the age of 44, he's in better shape than alot of MLB players out there. I remember that. Also, couldn't people say we did the same to Baines, but not playing him. For Pete sake the guy was done, I'm sorry out of respect there is no reason to put him on your team to make it worse. While Frank Thomas is far from a bad player, there is a point where you have to move on in my opinion. I am just not a big fan of teams that have a permanent DH. Colon and Valentin combine for around 13 million while Thomas would be another 5.5 or so freed up. Thats around 19 mill. YOu have some pay raises to Magglio and probably Konerko and then I'm thinking you can get Lee to a contract at the same rate. The Sox then pay Loaiza a bit more, leaving you say 12 million. With that the Sox could sign a shortstop and Ponson (6 and 6 or something along those lines) and then go with that. Plus if they do some things in trade, they could get some everyday major leaguers, maybe a Freddy Sanchez, etc that could fill other holes and cheaply. If they pick high enough then I think its compensentary by MLB and they dont' give up any picks, but I'm not positive on that. and the other guys I'd want them to sign wouldn't be worth that much. Plus I'll gladly accept 2 picks for COlon and use one of them on Sidney Ponson. He's worth it in my mind. Of course i'd like to acquire him for Thomas via a trade. He is coming over this offseason and is thought of as a very good defensive shortstop who steals tons of bases every year. He also has hit 30 plus homers last season in Japan and was hitting in the mid to high .300's if I recall. I think he was like 27 or so, so he's basically entering the prime of his career. Khalil was one of the best college players ever at Clemson (I think it was Clemson). they have a GREAT 2b prospect in josh barfield, and again he might start next yr or the yr later. i don't see them touching their 2b/ss combo of the future. however i will give you one point, miguel is too good to past up.
