Balta1701
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 13, 2009 -> 09:55 AM) Yeah Walker deserves all the heat if this line-up doesn't score. He needs to be coaching these guys not to go in to bases hard where they land all their weight on their heels. Is that his job? Needs to be someone's job. caulfield12
The White Sox are actually 7th in the AL in pitching, and somehow KC is still first after last night's 12-3 pasting by that offensive powerhouse, the Oakland A's. Wonder where Stone got the idea we were 2nd from the bottom? Hitting and defense, well, that's obvious. We have guys playing out of position every game these days...Nix at SS and RF, Lillibridge in CF, Pods in RF, etc.
Jerksticks
Nobody wants to pick the team up. Who's the man on this team, seriously. Can anybody carry us? Could 2 of our hitters get hot together. Can somebody inspire something? Ugh..

Is that his job? Needs to be someone's job. We still have NO idea what Baines really does... Bring in Broadway, maybe he can be the fifth starter. He pitched well the other night, might as well save Mark's arm for later in the season.

Balta1701
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 13, 2009 -> 10:01 AM) This was a bad defensive team when everyone is in their usual positions, and you're right, move them into other ones makes it worse. If we go through our usual lineup...where are our defensive weaknesses? Fields isn't going to win a GG this year, but he's been better than most of us expected. Alexei isn't the tops at SS but he's made some decent plays. Would you call him average or below average? Getz has been called as good of a player moving to his right as we've had since Durham. Konerko doesn't have range but he's solid at picking the ball. Quentin is covering more ground this year and is making better throws. Anderson has as good of range in CF as anyone. Dye: admitted weakness. Still does make some solid plays. Pierzynski...can't throw worth crap, very good at blocking the ball. We're not holding many GG winners right now unless Nix becomes a regular, but who do you consider really bad other than JD?
Kalapse
Ok, so now Jayson Nix is making mental mistakes in the field?

caulfield12
I'm not buying Fields as even an average 3B. He just doesn't have very good range...and he makes too many mistakes on lazy throws.

Kalapse
QUOTE (klaus kinski @ May 13, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) I think it was smart to get on ground first before throwing Faking the throw cost him, by the time he hit the ground he wasn't in a good position to throw to first because of the fake. caulfield12
What are the odds of either Betemit or Lillibridge getting a hit here? We're still in our slots in the order as if we were being no hit, thanks to Lexi's bunt and Lillibridge's DP ball. Will ANYONE go to see the Sox play the Pirates on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th at USCF? There is very little range. Fields is below average, Anorexei is very flashy but average overall defensively IMO, Getz is average no range, Paulie no range, Quentin is not very good in LF, BA rarely has played and everyone else, including Wise who did make a great play when he got hurt although most CF would have made that play without hitting the ground and Upton would have looked like he was loafing, Dye no range. There is no one except Ramirez who can be considered a regular (I'm not considering BA a regular) who doesn't have below average range except for Getz who is probably average but below to his right. Without a pitching staff that strikes people out, its not a good mix.
JohnCangelosi
QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 13, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Faking the throw cost him, by the time he hit the ground he wasn't in a good position to throw to first because of the fake. I am not so sure that was a fake as much as was that him worrying he didn't have a proper grip on the ball and he reloaded? No one can be sure but I think it's a bit assumptive to say he was faking that throw. Certainly there is no reason to "fake" a throw there and I'd hope he wouldn't ever make that mental mistake in the field...

Without a pitching staff that strikes people out, its not a good mix. I think Quentin has been average to above average this year in LF, especially compared to last year. He's made some really nice plays out there. Getz doesn't have the arm strength for SS, there's no doubt that Nix/Ramirez is our best possible combination defensively. And Chris goes have to play up the middle as he favors that side since he's much better moving to his left and making those spinning throw in RCF than he is throwing against his body falling into LF/SS. DJ and Farmer having a discussion about how long Lillibridge's swing is compared to Podsednik and Nix and how that sets him up to be beaten by pitchers. caulfield12
Lillibridge=Fields=Anderson=Ramirez Nix has the shortest, most compact swing on the team, along with Konerko this season. Lillibridge looks like Elijah Wood in Sin City. Edited May 13, 2009 by caulfield12
