Wow didn't see this one coming. Was hoping a guy like Huntsman might become a leader of the Republicans...

Yeah a lot of people were saying that, Huntsman seems to really have his s*** together. Actually this doesn't really hurt his resume. Bush 41 was ambassador to China in the 70s, ironically he complained about it at first since he was thinking about being president one day and being a diplomat isn't exactly fast-tracking it (heh, guess it didn't matter). But Huntsman's already been a governor.

Honestly, it should be dismissed. Who cares?

Because this was a guy who could have legitimately made some noise in 2012 as an outside-the-box candidate for the Republican nomination...someone who isn't of the Palin/Huckabee/Romney mold and who actually might bring a differing set of policies. It's far less likely that he'll run in 2012 now. But this could set him up with stronger credentials in 2016.

Well it's kind of hard to campaign from China. Being a diplomat is not really the best place to go for politics. It doesn't rule out anything he can do later though.

someone else can take the post

i see the Obama crew really thinks this is some amazing bipartisan move, so i don't think anything will change their minds.

He's a solid pick, but it's obvious there was a political motive behind it as well.
