BearSox
Bobby Borchering, 3B, HS Florida - 6'4" 200 lbs. (Bats S | Throws R) Scouting Report Strengths: Has great bat speed and really good power from both sides of the plate. Also has a really strong arm and decent running speed. Is a real good athlete as well. Loads of potential. Negatives: Is a project defensively and might not be able to stick at 3B (a move to 1B or LF could be necessary). Still has some holes in his swing. Bobby has a strong, physical build, but is also very athletic. He ran a 6.99 sixty and showed good arm strength across the diamond. Borchering is a switch hitter who has easy power from both sides. He shows good bat speed, makes plus barrel contact and the ball flies off his bat in a hurry to all fields. He has big potential with the bat. Bobby also shows ability on the mound with a heavy upper 80's fastball. He has committed to the Florida Gators and will be a strong follow for the 2009 draft. http://teamonebaseball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=636282 Borchering arguably has the most upside of anyone at the AA. A switch hitting 3B, with a projectable body that is only a 2009 HS graduate. Wow! Look out for this kid as he showed a very mature approach at the plate from both sides with gap power and quick hands. He seemed slightly more polished from the right side, but is still legitimate from the let side. Defensively, he showed good lateral ability with an easy arm and good carry into the target. Borchering was one of the best players among a strong group and he is only a Sophomore. Simply put, his future will be special. Statistics http://baseball.uaallamerica.com/pub/athle...obby-Borchering (2007 or 2008) Bobby hit .463 with 28 runs scored, 30 RBI, six homeruns and an .866 slugging percentage for his high school team this spring at Bishop Verot. From baseballamerica (2009) 13 home runs over 107 plate appearances Bio http://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerp...e.aspx?ID=49194 http://sports.espn.go.com/highschool/rise/...tory?id=3879911 http://baseball.uaallamerica.com/pub/athle...obby-Borchering Video Projected Draft Slot Mid-Late 1st Rounder Player Comparison Chipper Jones My Take Very tempting player to pass up if he's there at 23. It is tough to ignore a young 3B with his hitting ability and power from both sides of the plate. Is a bit of a project, but a ton of upside if we go this route. ThunderBolt
Borchering seems to be very adept at squareing the ball up at the plate. His swing is level, no real mechanics issues, and his fielding seems fine, he'd be a good pick, for anyteam other then us. Given our massive organizational logjam at third, but if we're drafting for talent alone, he might be worth a gander.
BearSox
I think there's a good chance he'll go in the top 15. He's been really impressing with the bat lately, and he's really an advanced hitter for someone coming out of high school. With his 40 homer potential, his ability to switch hit, and possibly staying at the hot corner, he's just a really sexy pick right now. Chisoxfn
I'll get a shot to see one of the top 3b prospects in the draft this Saturday. Louisville's 3rd baseman can flat rake.
Dizzy Sox
I think the only players I would take before Borchering are Strausburg and Ackley, even if he has to move to 1st or LF. There was a time where he could have possibly fallen to us at #23; now I think he goes in the 10-15 range.
