Danks and Beckham are incredible. There was about a two week adjustment period for both of them and they've never looked back. Flowers hardly even needed a week! Javy's doing a great job for the Braves. Gilmore, until recently, was doing horrible. Flowers is having a good, not spectacular season. I think Atlanta has to be pretty happy about that trade so far. ThunderBolt
QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:01 PM) Why's that? Javy's doing a great job for the Braves. Gilmore, until recently, was doing horrible. Flowers is having a good, not spectacular season. I think Atlanta has to be pretty happy about that trade so far. The organization was clearly done with Javy V. To get someone like Flowers for him is incredibly impressive. We have a guy who's hitting well enough to justify being put into the 2010 picture. daa84
the javy deal is alot more acceptable than the swisher deal IMO I've publicly said here that people need to temper their enthusiasm about JorDanks, because he was still a 7th round pick that scouts had serious concerns over where his power went from his HS days, but I gotta admit...I'm starting to get pretty damn excited about this kid. He Ks alot, but he also has shown a great ability to get on base so far....hitting for high average and drawing a nice number of walks....23 in 150 ABs. I think he's got a shot at being a curtis granderson type player

The MLB draft, as you know, is impossible to judge due to signability issues, etc. The day of the draft, the Danks family let it known that they were going to seek well above 2nd round money (where he was slotted to go). For once, this worked out in our favor.

Chisoxfn
QUOTE (fathom @ May 21, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) Why's that? Javy's doing a great job for the Braves. Gilmore, until recently, was doing horrible. Flowers is having a good, not spectacular season. I think Atlanta has to be pretty happy about that trade so far. Given the financial savings and talent the Sox acquired, it was a tremendous deal and easily KW's best selling move of his career (Danks isn't a sell move and Floyd is still open but if he does what he did last year for his career than that is an incredible sell). Rodriguez and Gilmore are very raw talents, Gilmore with the ability to be an all star 3rd baseman (if he gets everything on track and he's extremely young and raw) and than Flowers is a f***ing machine at the plate. Nice swing too so he might just be one of those statisticians dreams, solid average, tons of walks, 30+hr power, OPS and OBP machine. And I'm sure the Braves are happy because javy is a darn good NL pitcher.

NorthSideSox72
Torres with yet another solid outing. With this guy's performance, his numbers throughout his minor league career, his peripherals, and the scouting reports I have seen... someone needs to explain to me why he isn't taken seriously. Levi Maxwell just not having a good year at all, now 0-7.
scenario
QUOTE (danman31 @ May 22, 2009 -> 01:45 AM) Gilmore sucks. He sucked in April... batting .143 in 70 at-bats. Looks pretty good in May... batting .324 in 71 at-bats... including going 15-38 (.395) over his last 10 games. Also, he struck out 20 times in April... only 5 times so far in May. Chisoxfn
And ignoring the lefty Rodrigeuz we received is poor too. Dan, your statement was wrong, hehe. Until any member of that trade is in the team picture it is a bust of a trade considering what is being run out there by the Sox right now related to their rotation. Vazquez only flaw was not living up to the hype. I dont understand that, Vazquez was a liability 2 seasons he was here, sure he gave us innings but he was horrible and getting paid to be a front line starter. I bet by the end of this season, Vazquez has an era in the 4's again in the NL.
ThunderBolt
The fact is the White Sox publically derided Javy while he was still on the damn team. To do that and still get some damn good value out of him is not only great, but also a clear sign that KW knows exactly what he's doing. Also, we talking Batting Average here? Really? Have you seen Flowers' OPS? The guy's a below average fielder, but he's learning that damn position and giving you a balls out offensive performance, with AJ reaching his twilight years and swinging at nearly everything can we really afford to complain here? He seems to be adjusting slowly to each level, but he is on the young end for the leagues he is at. Once he figures it out, he goes crazy. It will be interesting to keep an eye on him.
