southsider2k5
I know there was quite a bit of frustration with the guy last night, but I am going to swim against the flow here... Last night was as impressed with Danks as I have ever been. He literally had nothing last night. He couldn't keep his change from bouncing, his fastball was topping out at about ninety, and he didn't even try his curveball in the early innings. Somehow the kid managed to gut out six innings while only giving up 3 runs, dispite walking SIX guys. On paper it looks awful, in reality, we saw a real maturing last night. Anytime you can get a pitcher that young to suck up and make a quality start out of the stuff he had last night is amazing. Most pitchers wouldn't have stuck around long enough to get a QS out of that mess, but somehow Danks managed to fool just enough hitters to win that game. Especially with as large of a lead as he had, Danks could have just started grooving fastballs to get the hitters swinging, and get through innings, but he didn't. He pitched every single inning like it was a one run game. Danks looked like Mark Buehrle battling last night. He was just a sight to be watched. NorthSideSox72
I wouldn't quite say he's as good at battling through a bad day as MB, but I agree it was nice to see him work that out. He's becoming a more mature pitcher now.
Milkman delivers
He definitely battled, but it doesn't surprise me. He's as much a "pitcher" as any veteran in the league.

Were you reading the same game thread I was? For the first couple innings it was a mire of how bad everything on the team was, the whole team sucks, the world is falling apart, etc., etc.
Texsox
Quality post SS. There are so many games in the season, and they seem to pass by so quickly, it is great when when someone catches a moment like that.
Dick Allen
He did a good job. Hopefully, he can carry it over to a game when he doesn't get a huge lead to play with, I do think that make it a lot easier. I really believe he will have a much better career than Floyd. I'm wondering if Danks is going through a "dead arm" period, brought on by the 201 innings he threw last year (his previous high was 156, in 2005). I was very frustrated with the way he was walking people and enticing the Angels to get back in the game, which i think they would've done if our offense hadn't buried them so quickly. But I salute the optimism and hope that Danks gets this wildness under control in the next start.
RockRaines
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 26, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) Were you reading the same game thread I was? For the first couple innings it was a mire of how bad everything on the team was, the whole team sucks, the world is falling apart, etc., etc. Thats every game thread ,and most of the time those people just need an outlet for their life frustration. Danks will be fine when he gets his shoulder back closed, he was flying open just like he did as a rookie yesterday. The good news is that when he used to do that, his ball was always elevated in the zone and very hittable, he has learned to at least keep it down a touch.
