Pods and BA can both be hitting .330 and Ozzie will work Wise in to take some AB's away. Anderson was 3 for 5 so it's time to bench him to slow his momentum. That will teach him to respect authority. Anderson is 2nd on the team with an OBP of .381. Thome leads the team with .387. Maybe it's time to bat Brian second for a few weeks and see what happens.

Everyone always said Owens was shown all this favoritism over Anderson. When the dust cleared, Owens had about 390 major league at-bats, mostly in garbage time so to speak. Anderson meanwhile was given many more chances to prove himself, as he should b/c of his tools.

There are no conspiracies. If Wise comes back and the others are rolling on all cylinders, he wont play. If they arent, he'll get his chances.

How far have we come when now people will start clamoring for Pods to remain in CF. Yeesh.

I'll admit it, Pods is doing far better than I thought he would. No question that he and Anderson are a better choice than Wise, who I hope stays behind those two in the pecking order. Trib says TCQ back by the weekend anyway, so hopefully that means Wise stays in Charlotte.

I still think Pods is pretty awful on D, and doesn't belong in CF, but his bat has been a nice surprise. His speed also helps, as long as he isn't trying to steal.

Was that the article where Big Herm said the popping sound TCQ heard is a good thing? If so, I wonder why? I'd like a bit more of an explanation than just that tidbit.

And yet, despite hitting .303, he still only has a .349 OBP and .718 OPS (85 OPS+). He's a below average hitter even though he's hitting .303, and once things even out and his batting average regresses to his career norm, he'll be back to being the fringe major league quality player that he is.

Don't get me wrong, it's nice that he's been only below average in his time with us this season as opposed to being completely godawful, but lets not pretend he's a real answer for our team. 33-year olds don't suddenly remember how they hit when they were 27.

It was nice to see Scotty hitting, weird stance or not. It worked for him. And Lexi in the 2 hole is nice.... Hopefully Ozzie keeps him there after Joey had him in his line-up...

Steve your sig is a bit of a spoiler don't you think?

Look, I don't give a f*** what his OPS is. He's getting on at an acceptable rate and hitting for a nice average RIGHT NOW. Given the other turds we've had at the top of the order I'll f***ing take it.

OPS+ is a terrible f***ing stat to look at when it comes to leadoff hitters. Oh and Pods has made a bit of an adjustment and was just stroking singles yesterday with that swing of his. Will it hold up, I don't know, but as of now, he's the leadoff hitter.

The only explanation for that is that they believe the problem may be scar tissue between the plantar fascia and the surrounding tissues. The "good popping" would be the tearing of scar tissue to allow more flexibilty and increased blood supply to the area.

I remember a comical fool thinking that the number actually affected performance

;)

I never said # affected performance. I said Pods is a WS hero and most certainly should be wearing #22.

Would scar tissue make an audible "pop?" If so, I wasn't aware of that.

Yes, it can and frequently does. Especially in superficial tissue such as the plantar fascia.

Under general anesthetic manipulation for total knee placements which lack motion due to scar tissue, the "pop" is so loud it can echo.

Scotty Pods is hitting .303.

WTF? How long are opposing pitchers going to allow him to do his little mini-Ichiro step swing? He seems like he's reborn.

Oh, but fire Walker, there's no way he had anything to do with that.

I hope I don't need green for a few things up there.

Theyve started to hit him to deter him from doing it, but that just puts him on base which is what he is trying to do anyway. Keep doing it until you get hurt and go on the DL for the rest of the season.

I dont know if he SHOULD be thrown at for using this stance, but I can certainly see why an opposing pitcher WOULD throw at him if he is running up on the ball. Basically it is going to make him think twice before doing it again, because if he is moving his weight forward towards the ball, he is going to have that much less time to get out of the way of the ball.

A deterrent HBP, in other words

Good, let him get hit. He can get on base that way too.

LOL

I wanted to say the same thing.

I'm happy Pods is doing what he's doing and I'll always love him for his contributions in '05. However, BA should be in CF everyday and unless someone else is hurt, I just can't see Ozzie doing that. It's not that I hate Pods, it's that I in no way trust Ozzie and would sacrifice Pods for the greater good of the honies.

Knee-jerk reaction.

If podsednik were to have reached base 0, 1, or 2 times yesterday, compared to the six that he did, (four base hits) this thread is not created. A complete and utter aberration had to take place (podsednik has never once in his career reached base six times in a single game) for this thread to come to light.

Podsednik's baseball reference page needs a sponsor, they are asking $30. World series hereos have to worth that much, at least i would have to think.

Yeah, I heard Hawk saying that he'll end up with a ball between the eyes or in the ear, dag gummit.

But at least he will be on base for sure. I saw the game on TV last night and Pods was tuned in for sure and looked really good with that bat crow hopping or not

So what's the word on CQ by now?

Is he on the DL? Pardon my ignorance.

First time I've heard a pop is a good thing. Tell that to my lower right leg last summer when jogging up hill. Ouch.

He has certainly not been put on the DL; that would be published as a press release. He may still wind up there, but it hasn't happened yet. Last update had him still "Day to day".

I think Hawk's right on. It's going to take the right kind of pitcher but Pods is going to run up on the wrong guy and take one in the ear. What he's doing has been considered bush for a very long time.

If a pitcher has a problem with it, f*** him. As long as we get production from prancer while he's in there, i'm a happy guy. And I would bet good money that Pods doesn't give a s*** what anyone thinks. You just can't deny that when the top of the order gets on good things happen. Dye, Thome and Kong hit so much better when they're standing in there with purpose.

It was a crow hop against Toronto, but now he basically just shuffles his feet twice. It really makes him focus on putting that front leg down and staying level with the bat. It seems to be working when he has the timing down of a pitcher.

What did I miss? What's he doing to deserve a ball in the earhole?
