It actually doesn't surprise me in the least that he was traded to the Mets, I've long felt that he is atleast somewhat comparable to John Maine. He was waaaaaaaaaaay worse of a pick than Broadway. This deal is meh for me as a fan of Lance but I won't complain. I woulda thought Whisler would come up for Gobble. I liked the guy, but I guess he wasn't going to make it on our staff and Clayton Richard has stepped up for sure. We already have two catchers who can't hit down there. However, if one of Pierzynski or Castro get injured, I'd much rather see Lucy up at the big league level than Miller returning. As for Whisler, I agree. This is likely a tryout to be the second lefty in the pen. Gobble sucks. As for Contreras, I don't think he's close to coming back. He's only had 1 really good outing. Broadway was not going to do anything here and Corky Miller is not a major league hitter, even as a backup catcher. Castro can hit .250 and has serious power. He's also an above average defensive catcher and is an ideal MLB backup catcher. Also glad Whisler got a call up. I'm skeptical about whether he will have any success or not, as his peripherals in AAA are not good. But he has put up some good ERA numbers the past couple years and did earn a call up. That's a bad example. Look at all the other teams that passed on Ellsbury and Garza too. There's a reason they fell to the late 1st round. So, I guess the Yankees, Padres, Rangers, Cubs, A's, Marlins, and Astros all suck at drafting too b/c they passed on at least 1 of the players you put in bold.
