BearSox
Everett Williams, OF, Prep (Texas) - 5'10", 195 lbs. (Bats L | Throws R) Scouting Report Strengths: Is very athletic and toolsy, but is a bit polished. Has some good pop and very good speed. Is very good in Center Field, gets good read, has excellent range, and has an average arm. Negatives: Swings through the ball sometimes and has a tendency to strike out. Will he hit enough to make it in the pros? Scouting Report Links http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/y2009/...ontent=williams http://baseballfactory.com/top100/?page=1 (no. 13) Williams has an exciting mix of tools with present above-average speed and future above-average power from the left side. His speed and instincts allow him to patrol CF well, but he is raw at the plate and will require some patience from an organization. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft...009/268181.html A little undersized, but has explosive tools and some polish to his bat Statistics Senior (2009) - Can't Find Them. Junior (2008) - .480 AVG | 13 HR | 58 RBI | 19 SB Sophomore (2007) - .430 AVG | 13 HR | 56 RBI | 15 SB Freshman (2006) - .410 AVG | 4 HR | 25 RBI | 12 SB Bio http://www.aflacallamerican2008.com/everettWilliams.asp Video Projected Draft Slot Mid-Late 1st Round (could slip into the comp round A, but if he does, he won't last long) Player Comparison A combo of Michael Bourn and Corey Patterson. Best case scenario is perhaps a Curtis Granderson type player. My Take There's been a lot of talk of use being interested in Williams and quite a few places have him going to us with pick 23 in their mock drafts. However, I would not be a big fan of that. If he falls to 38, that's a different story, but at 23, that's just too big of a risk on this guy. He might turn into a good player, but there's always the possibility of him becoming the next Corey Patterson. ThunderBolt
A combo of Michael Bourn and Corey Patterson seems like a very bad baseball player. Bad comparison. He's a bit like Granderson when he was a prospect. Full of potential, but raw enough that it will take him a couple years to figure everything out. BearSox
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) A combo of Michael Bourn and Corey Patterson seems like a very bad baseball player. Bad comparison. He's been compared to Michael Bourn, but he isn't as fast but has a lot more pop. That sounds a lot more like Corey Patterson. He's a very high risk, but potentially a very high reward. Pretty much a boom or bust player, as I don't see much middle ground with him. I thought about Granderson as his comparison, but Granderson was lot more polished when he was coming out of college.
