Hookah - Shisha Pipe - Narghile

I know I'm not the only one on here who likes doing this - matter of fact, I'm buying one right now.

For those who have not done it, it's not at all what it looks like (a bong, basically). The smoke that comes out is clean and smooth, doesn't feel like cigarette smoke or anything like that. I used to have one when I was in Iraq, it only cost me about 25 bucks back then, but there used to be a rule against "drug paraphernalia" going thru customs. So I gave mine away before I left only to find out that they'd changed the rules, so I got rid of it for nothing. :( Here they are more like 80-110 dollars. Shopping in s***ty economies with US dollars > shopping in the US.

what's the point of it? Does it get you high?

No, it's just like puffing on thick flavored air if the coal is the right temperature. It's a social thing, it's really cool to just BS around while you pass the hose around and take turns, it's not the same if you don't have at least 3 people to do it with.

I've done it a number of times. Usually cherry-flavored. You get a very small buzz off of it, but nothing to write home about. lost is right about it being social.

Of course, the hookah can be used to smoke weed, too.

We have a Hookah bar close to campus in Knoxville. I know people who have been, and I definitely want to try it sometime. I don't think it would be something I'd do a lot, but I definitely want to try it. And as far as buying stuff in Iraq goes, my brother-in-law bought me an XBOX for $20 there, so I totally get what you mean about "shopping in s***ty economies with US dollars > shopping in the US."

Yeah it's totally something you do with friends, not something you do sitting by yourself, except maybe while relaxing.

I had a friend with one in college and had a lot of flavors. It was nice to do after drinking all night.

Or while drinking, lol.

If you ever go to an Arab country and go on a business meeting or whatever they do this all the time. That's how I got exposed to it, actually friends who had to do meetings, and they'd come back with their own pipes and do it with us. I was pretty happy to find out they actually had hookah bars here, they're getting more popular.

I had one in college, but only smoked one flavor. ;)

For the benefit of uninvited guests, we'd put a lampshade on the thing when not in use. Fooled 'em every time.

Our Middle Eastern hookah bar just closed, sadly.

The local college has a large international student population and our local Mediterranean eatery and grocery sells water pipes and lots of tobacco flavors. It is an enjoyable way to spend an evening every once in a while.

Speaking of Mediterranean food, this brings up something I was talking about with Milkman the other day. It's really hard to find a gyro place outside of Chicago. Over there, they are a dime a dozen, even in the suburbs. This probably goes for New York too. They might have some down in DC, but in Maryland, I can only think of one place, and it's a good 20 minute drive away.

Fortunately I have a great gyro joint just up the road from me, and then very few other palatable options for miles in any direction.

Still, I miss going to Greek Town and ordering a gyro with extra tzaziki sauce and having the counter guy shout back to the kitchen, "One gyro platter with extra jizz!"

:lolhitting

I am currently in the process of quitting smoking, so I think hookah is going to be a life saver for me when I get to college. Not that is really helps for cravings, but being able to smoke anything helps it a lot. That, and it is pretty fun. I get bored with it pretty easily, but it's nice to just sit around and hang out.

I hear your pain. I need to find something down here that has good greek food. It just isn't here.

The gyro is here is terrible. NYC probably has something, but where I am, people eat too healthy to get a real good gyro.

The majority of ''hookah smokers'' in this country are non smokers, which i find laughable. Hookah smoke is worse for you than cigarettes by a large margin. If you do not condone cigarettes or any other form of smoking, you simply are going against your beliefs.
