Reddy
QUOTE (hawkubes @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 07:27 AM) +1 Over the past 12 games Fields has played in, he's raised his batting avg. by 40 points. Nobody else has really been producing all that much offensively except for Pods, and the Sox have won 9 of those games. I haven't been able to catch every game (with the damn WCIU games and Fox deciding to show the Twinks game here) but I can't recall any defensive miscues in that time either He was probably the player of the game last night. I say lay off Fields for awhile, he's playing great right now. having seen something like this posted at least 3 or 4 times yesterday, and having responded to each that it is not accurate, I figured I'd just create a thread so I could keep my sanity. Josh Fields is NOT the only player on the sox hitting well right now. In fact, it's not just Josh and Pods. Please see the following: Over the last 15 games (not including yesterday): Dye: .302/.380/.651/1.031 AJP: .400/.438/.556/.994 Ramirez: .328/.371/.431/.802 Podsednik: .317/.369/.417/.786 Fields: .317/.349/.390/.739 So please, no more Josh Fields man-love about him being the ONLY guy on our team producing right now... Those other four guys are not on the verge of losing their job and possibly careeer to a player that may or may not be better than Josh Fields. My personal belief is that Beckham could not have been called up at a worse time as the tension has to be somewhat high in that clubhouse. Kenny Hates Prospects
I say make a deal to give Beckham positional security. And I want him at 2B, so open 2B up and keep him there. Either play Fields at 3B or trade the guy and acquire a veteran. What the Sox are doing right now is probably not good for anyone involved. Do you really think Beckham is expecting positional security? He's a rookie for crying out loud. Sure he wants to play, but any real ball player knows that they have to earn it and nothing is going to be handed to him. I don't think this will mess with Beckham's head at all. He knows what he's here for. Force the other players to play better or he's going to be taking their spot. Simple as that. And if Fields and Getz can't handle competition we don't want them in the lineup.

Maybe competition is what KW wanted to help focus a few players and give them an edge.

Treat him the way elite prospects are supposed to be treated: open a spot, let him get comfortable, and let him struggle and learn without throwing him under the bus. I didn't understand why he was called up when he was either. Then KW basically said he's going to play everyday. That would be OK if it wasn't at the expense of Fields, who has been hitting well lately.
