  1. 1. In the peak of his career, who do you think Dayan Viciedo's offense will be compared to?

    • Juan Uribe - Some pop, bad average, bad contact, bad walk rate
      4
    • Adrian Beltre - Decent pop, moderate average, low-moderate walk rate
      31
    • Howie Kendrick - Hits for great average, zero pop, does not really ever walk
      0
    • Sammy Sosa - Major pop, hits above average, pretty good walk rate
      3
    • Andruw Jones - Great pop, can't hit for much average, moderate to good walk rates
      17
    • Miggy Cabrera - Good pop, batting title candidate, moderate to good walk rates
      6
    • He will not have a major league career
      0
    • None of these

Pokey Reese? Really? Reese was a balls out defender, but his limited offensive potential is what killed his career. Beckham's offensive abilities make him a plus-plus option at 2b and SS. His defensive ability as demonstrated by his success at 3b is greatly helped by great reads on balls, and the ranger to go left and right. He’ll be just fine in the middle infield.

meant Reese defensive (type), not offense. Robbie Alomar better comparison :)

Also what "success" has Beckham had at 3B thus far? He's been pretty bad thus far defesnively at every position, both in the minors and majors. Scouting reports that have him as a "plus" defender in any way shape or form are a (hype) joke.

It's just that at 3B, Beckham at least has a chance to be league-average with the glove, eventually. His offensive potential is what hopefully will make him a valuable player.

The only thing I am going to tell you is that in June so far my boy from Villa Clara has the following stats:

AVE/OBP/SLG/OPS

328/365/483/848 with 4 BB and 7 K and 2 SB.

Will we see him in the South side of Chicago in September?

I say, yes we will if he keeps numbers like those.

The giants have Anderson or Alderson and than Baumgauter. I'm sure I botched the spelling.

I am not referring about other young players in this year AA. I am referring about this in your earlier post:

"is hitting for more power than a lot of the big ML HR hitters today did when they were 20 and in the minors."

Beckham/Beckman is a simple mistake.

Unfortunately, it is a classic mistake made by people who do not follow the Sox regularily. It had nothing to do with knowing English or not. It was a joke, which I am sorry it upset you.

However, Kyyle would have had no idea that English was not your first language. How could he? Had you told him before that you didn't normally speak/write in English? I don't recall the conversation. It's not like you've posted a lot here in the last year.

There's a difference between kidding and insulting. He kidded you. You insulted and personally attacked.

If you are going to use your lack of English language skills as a crutch and a reason to overreact and personally attack others here, you can move on elsewhere.

That being said, it is pretty ridiculous how when someone makes a simple mistake it always gets pointed out, it was obvious he meant beckham and didn't need the 100th post making fun of someone who spelled it wrong. If someone makes a post that is unclear to you, it's fine to point that out and tell them you don't understand what they were saying. But, if its pretty clear and you don't really know the poster, no need to point out the small stuff.

Obviously my grammar is really poor as well and I don't really take offense to those who point it out in a friendly way, but I can understand it be annoying/upsetting to others.

As the owner of the site, I encourage you to post here. I've gotten crap on my grammar ever since the site started but as far as I'm concerned the only thing that matters is the content of the post, not the grammatical accuracies of the post.

Haven't seen you post much before but you've obviously been around for a bit so its a little late, but Welcome Aboard!!!

I love the Viciedo/Caballo comparisons. It really sounds like Dayan doesn't have the athletic ability to hold down 3B in reality, and when Dye moves on, you will see TCQ move into RF, and that opens up LF for one of these guys. Viciedo would be it for me.

I can live with Carlos Lee production.

Lee has become more of a pull (HR) hitter over the years, though, he can be successfully pitched middle-away -- whereas with Viciedo there is still hope he can be an all-field HR monster in a few years.

As for defense, I don't think it's necessarily the athleticism that disqualifies Viciedo as 3B. I am sure as he hopefully gets in better shape, he can be at least as "athletic" as Ventura or Crede. Pablo Ozuna was quite athletic but he was bloody horrorible But I fear that even as strong an arm as he has, Viciedo may lack the natural instincts/dexterity/focus to be an everyday INF on the major league level --- just like El Caballo.
