Instead he was sent to Double-A, where he quickly settled in to be one of the league's better hitters. He eventually also handled a move from shortstop to third base. He's hit, proved he can handle three defensive positions and climbed to the big leagues when most of his fellow '08 college first-round picks are hoping they can be promoted to Double-A. It's hard to imagine Beckham having a better first year as a pro. Danks Ranked No. 7 Danks slid all the way to the seventh round in the '08 draft because of concerns about his power. But by focusing on what he does well (hit for average, get on base, run down liners in center field) the White Sox have gotten a lot out of Danks already. He earned a quick promotion to Double-A after only 148 class A at-bats, and he's shown no problems holding his own against older pitchers. The White Sox farm system ranked 16th in our pre-season rankings. Thanks to their 2008 draft and picks like Danks, Chicago will likely move up in next year's rankings. Hudson in the team photo We've already mentioned Gordon Beckham and Jordan Danks from the White Sox '08 draft class. Dexter Carter (13th round) has also had an solid start to his career, but 22-year-old fifth-rounder Dan Hudson has already been promoted to high Class A Winston-Salem thanks to his 5-4, 2.70 season with 71 K and a 0.92 WHIP in 71 IP Hudson only has thrown 60 innings so far, so BA was wrong there. I guess Dex was quasi-mentioned, but this has the makings of one of the Sox's finest draft classes. Let's hope it continues to the '09 class. The 2008 draft really has to give you confidence that our scouts and the way we approach our minor league system have improved a lot since Kenny decided to make some changes. And if we can find a couple Dan Hundson's/Dexter Carter's in this draft (Morgado? Buch?) as well as an impact bat (whether it's Mitchell, Thompson, Goodwin if he signs, though unlikely), this draft will be pretty stellar. Holmberg is the kid I’m looking at to give us one of the better returns. He has the track record, stuff, and he’s young enough to make adjustments and see improved velocity. He was a junior and signability was a big part of it but it was true that scouts also questioned his power as he didn't hit for near as much power as people had expected when UT).
