fathom
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 01:18 AM) PH Wise and when/if Rhodes brought in then Nix. Exactly...the Reds wouldn't play match-ups in the 9th with Cordero. Of course, Wise should have been playing today (you have to maximize your lefties against Arroyo). And the sooner we promote Kroeger for Gobble, the better.

caulfield12
Nix just hasn't had many AB's recently. Not sure we can look at him very confidently coming off the bench at this point in the season...and everyone knows Fields' weaknesses.

Leave Beckham be for now. We shouldn't be putting expectations like this on him. It's just not common to see rookies come up and dominate. He had a clutch hit yesterday against one of the toughest pitchers in baseball to hit. He also gave us a shot to win last Sunday's game with a clutch hit. Of course, Wise should have been playing today (you have to maximize your lefties against Arroyo). And the sooner we promote Kroeger for Gobble, the better. Agreed, IF it's D-Weezy from LAST year...but unfortunately he's been a shade of him former self, which wasn't all that good to begin with. Of course, you can always go with the "revenge against former team" approach playing Wise. The fact that we think Josh Kroeger could really help this team speaks volumes for our season. greg775
The Sox have 2 hits. It's the return of the bad Sox apparently after giving away the game against the Cubs.

Hawk keeps on calling it the best bullpen in American League, just like Joe Morgan last year. Just as our starting pitching started to perform, our bullpen is on a decline. greg775
Hawk keeps on calling it the best bullpen in American League, just like Joe Morgan last year. It's wildly inconsistent, another reason our team remains sub. .500. There's always something missing. Just not consistently good baseball, like the rest of the teams in the Central. winninguglyin83
Clutch hits? How about any hits? just two -- double by Pods and HR by Getz. The Thome/Rhodes matchup was predictably bad. He's now 2-for-22 against Rhodes with a dozen Ks.
fathom
What's sickening is that Ozzie is making Dusty look like a real good manager tonight. Played right into the Reds plans by having two straight lefties for Rhodes to face.

caulfield12
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 08:27 PM) Our relievers are really struggling for the past 2 weeks or so. Everyone's giving up runs it seems. Which was probably Ozzie's thinking with Thome there. Even though the odds are against it, he's the player off the bench (along with Nix MAYBE) most likely to get ahold of one and put you back in the lead...to change the momentum. Maybe Guillen feels the lack of confidence the bullpen now as well and saw the game slipping away...it's not like he has a arsenal of competent weapons to choose from off that bench. AJ would have been nullified by Rhodes too, but at least he's more of a contact hitter than Big Jim.
