flavum
Birmingham is tied 2-2 in the 8th. First game of a doubleheader, so this is extra innings. Homer for Gartrell tied it in the 5th.

scenario
Sox pitching prospects on fire! Carlos Torres with a rain-shortened perfect game last night. Levi Maxwell threw a no-hitter for Winston-Salem today. Have we ever had two prospects throw no-hitters on consecutive days before? scenario
Dexter Carter throwing a great game so far tonight for Kanny. 5 innings; 0 runs on 1 hit; 6 K's; 0 BB's. Kannapolis up 1-0 after 5.
Chisoxfn
I have to think Dex will be up to Winston Salem after the seasons end and we see some guys from the draft go directly to Kanny.

fathom
There's no doubt in my mind we're going to see Allen up with the big league club sooner rather than later (due to injury or trade).

ThunderBolt
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 09:24 PM) There's no doubt in my mind we're going to see Allen up with the big league club sooner rather than later (due to injury or trade). With the team rapidly playing itself out of contention, I think you’re correct. About a month ago, I’d have given Brandon Allen a 45% of being the big league club this season, at this point, that’s increased to about 65%. flavum
Gameday has Dan Hudson pitching, but Matt Long is in in relief in Game 2. Hudson starts tomorrow for Birmingham.
SoxAce
Have yourself a freaking day Brandon Allen!! My goodness what a debut. Dexter Carter should already be in W-S IMO. I'm higher on him than Hudson, so perhaps it's just my current man crush that's blinding me.

flavum
This is the last series of the first half for Birmingham. They've played 14 series this season and haven't lost one. That's impressive and a pretty good nod to Ever Magallanes.

scenario
Saw this interesting note in the mlb.com story about the game... What was the difference on Friday? Maxwell said he found a new pitch before the game. "I started throwing a new pitch, a cutter," he explained. "The last game, I was coming off my fastball and cutting it a little, and I started working on it in my last bullpen. It started to become a really good pitch for me." Maxwell, throwing the cut fastball in the mid-80s, also featured his usual off-speed pitches. "I was getting guys to swing early in the count," said Maxwell, who induced eight fly balls and eight grounders. "But that cutter was how I got all my ground balls." Chances are the cutter will be sticking around for the rest of the season. "Everybody was asking about it and I said, 'Hey, I just learned that the other day."
