Tidbits from Today's Winner Vs. Dodgers

• Nice win. Got to love Pods' contributions this year.

• Game drew just over 20,000 fans. Economy or our home record?

• Sox have won four of five and eight of 12. Heating up?

• Aaron Poreda gets first ML victory. Sweet. Congrats to him. Should he take over for Clayton? What's up with Richard after those great first three or four starts?

• Carrasco nice job.

Oz's eruption in the Trib on Lexi's defense ...

TRIB GAME STORY

Make that everybody except manger Ozzie Guillen, who was in a foul mood because shortstop Alexei Ramirez made a pair of errors, one of which led to an unearned seventh-inning run that tied the game 5-5.

“We played 13 innings because we were lousy in the field. Lousy and lazy in the field,” Guillen said. “I made a big mistake when I said in January he’s going to be a better shortstop than Ozzie Guillen. I never thought I was that bad.

“We won and that’s good. I’m excited, but there are so many things I want to see I don’t see yet. And I need to see it. ... We have a better ballclub than what we show.”

Oz on Carrasco ...

“the best pitcher we have. He’s always picking up everybody’s garbage and he has been doing it for two years.”

Finally admitted what most people here called months ago.. though I still love that quote toward the end of it... Ozzie is brutally honest.. and hilarious.

The attendance in this series sucked because our ticket office made the very dumb decision of charging premium prices for a mid week series in June against an NL team immediately before the Cubs visit. The home series before the Cubs visit is going to be a tough draw as it is, but when you charge premium prices for it and it's in the middle of the week, that makes matters even worse.

As for the game today, maybe this is just my blatant anti-Clayton bias, but I want Richard out of the rotation and Poreda taking his place. Poreda needs to get more work and where better than at the MLB level? Plus, Clayton is doing the Bartolo Colon thing these days, which is putting up a decent ERA which is deceptive in relationship to his poor performances. Other than that though, nice win today and nice series win.

Richard just goes into brainfart mode, Once a game he just does something stupid like trying to throw the ball to first and just ruins the inning from then on. I think Poreda is going to get his chance if Richard cant get over the hump.

I don't think Richard has been awful persay, but I want Poreda in the rotation if he's going to be up with the big club, and might as well get him in there for Richard rather than Contreras since Count has pitched well lately and i'm not a fan of 4 lefties in the rotation.

I actually wonder whether or not KW and therefore Ozzie are afraid to use Poreda in a key situation because they want him to put up some inflated numbers pitching in garbage time, raising his trade value.

Anyways, all I see Ozzie saying in this is that Alexei needs to step his s*** up. He has big expectations for him, and he's not living up to them yet. Alexei's never going to be as good as Ozzie was defensively, but he can probably be an average shortstop.

Interesting theory. Aaron's done the job so far, and I don't blame Ozzie for wanting to ease him into it.

If Linebrink keeps struggling (pitched better today though), maybe Poreda could get a shot there. But the best case scenario is for Scott to pitch better and allow Aaron to keep doing what he's doing and pitch well.

As for Alexei, that's just Ozzie being Ozzie. This team can't win if they're going to be sloppy defensively because of their subpar offense, and Ozzie knows that, so he's going to ride his players hard on that to make sure it doesn't keep happening.

I'm in favor of making those 59 jersey's permanent.... They looked quite swell....

Except for the fact that the numbers were too huge, the color of the jerseys weren't cream colored, and they weren't made out of wool.

the jerseys they wore in 2005 looked much better.

A few thoughts:

*Clayton probably isn't meant for the rotation. Maybe he's "hitting the wall", but he's throwing nothing like his first few starts. Richard should be moved out of the rotation, move him to the pen, trade or release Gobble, and call up Carlos Torres for the 5th spot. I'd rather have a healthy Richard for the bullpen, where he can throw 2 innings at a time, than have him tax the bullpen by only going 4 innings per start.

*Poreda has been eased into the bigs, throwing in non-pressure situations. Rather than the sox trying to up his trade value, the sox want him the throw innings and be successful. He's going to get more chances to throw in games the sox are tied or have the lead, esp. with Dotel and Linebrink fading. The sox shouldn't put him in the rotation now, messing with his development.

*Alexei's brain cramps aren't sitting well with Ozzie, and Hawk and Stoney have called him out multiple times on air. He's got to make the changes in his game or the sox won't put up with it. Esp, with Beckham around.

Richard just doesnt have the command and stuff at this point to be a consistent starting pitcher. I think its about time to put him as the swing man in the pen. I'd actually rather see DJ start a game or two at this point.

I was going to go to yesterdays game with my friend, but then saw tickets were going to cost me 50 bucks roughly after fees and everything. So I decided to not go.

The attendance while bad was a perfect storm.

A lot of casual fans that look at the Dodger series as intriguing also had nice road options as Milwaukee, Cincinnati and Chicago in the last couple of weeks as well as the cub series.

Real bad decision to charge what they did.

Ozeroo is right on with his Carrasco comments. He could be the most valuable guy out there right now in the trade market.

I too, was going to go to yesterdays game until I realized I was going to have to pay "jacked - up" prices to sit in in the heat.

The more and more I watch Alexie play SS, the more and more i realize he should be at 2B. He had better range there as well as less pressure. At 2b base he had time to do his infamous 'double clutch'. At SS there is no time for that at all! I wouldn't be mad if Alexie was back at 2B next year and Bacon was inserted into SS, leaving 3B wide open. . i heard Figgins is a free agent. . .

Good read on the forced Dodgers excitement. Sox marketing trying to establish an arbitrary rivalry that doesn't exist and charge us extra.

i don't know if it's trying to establish an arbitrary rivalry as much as its trying to take advantage of the dodgers' national fanbase.

Well it didn't seem effective since the stands were as full as a Royals game.

true, but there were probably a number of external factors (the heat being the big one) that influenced it.

in general i think the idea behind this is solid from a business standpoint. i think (unfortunately for us) we'll see plenty of variant pricing on games in the future depending on who the opponent is. iirc, some teams (giants?) do this as a regular business practice.
