beck72
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 02:04 AM) Frankly if it hadn't been for inning 9 I'd be saying we should bench both Beckham and Alexei tomorrow for their defense this game. At least one has only played their position in the majors-he's got an excuse
Rowand44
He's frustrating as hell out there. That being said, lets not forget that he made 2 plays yesterday that no one else on the team would have had a chance for. I think you have to stick with him at short, he's got too much potential as a shortstop to move him out of there during his first full season playing there. Farmer and Jackson have been all over Ramirez today, calling him "lost" on how to turn the double play.
BearSox
That spin thing he did on the DP was despicable. You don't do that s***. He almost blew the DP by taking an extra couple of seconds to get rid of the ball with his stupid ass flashy spin. I wouldn't have been oppossed to pulling him right after that inning. We're not the Cubs. We're not a team that does a hop and a jump to catch routine fly balls (Soriano), or raise their hands to the heavens after making a fairly routine diving catch (Bradley). There's no room for that s***. I'd bench Alexei tomorrow, I don't give a s*** if he hit a home run today.
BearSox
QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) Farmer and Jackson have been all over Ramirez today, calling him "lost" on how to turn the double play. He looks lost on the field altogether. Either his mind isn't on the game, or he's dumb, or he thinks he's the greatest player ever. Plus, it's looking quite evident he doesn't have the courage to stay in on a DP. Also, at bat, even though he did hit a homer today, he still tries to pull everything. I love Alexei, but he really needs to put his s*** together.
BaseballNick
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) That spin thing he did on the DP was despicable. You don't do that s***. He almost blew the DP by taking an extra couple of seconds to get rid of the ball with his stupid ass flashy spin. I wouldn't have been oppossed to pulling him right after that inning. Clearly, it looked like the spin was unnecessary but maybe Alexei saw something that made him think he needed to get out of the way of the baserunner in order to turn the double play. I certainly wouldn't make this judgment without hearing what Alexei has to say about it first. It's not like he's out there routinely showing people up or being disrespectful to the game or the opposition. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt on this one. JDsDirtySox
Ozzie... In the post game presser today said that Alexei will be the SS for the Sox as long as Ozzie is the manager. He said fans need to get Alexei moving to CF out of their minds.
BearSox
QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) Ozzie... In the post game presser today said that Alexei will be the SS for the Sox as long as Ozzie is the manager. He said fans need to get Alexei moving to CF out of their minds. I got no problem keeping him there for the rest of the season cause I frankly don't think we're gonna do much, and thinking about it, a move like that would be quite the change mid-season. However, we'll see if Ozzie and more importantly Kenny change their mind about Alexei by the end of the year and heading into ST 2010. kev211
The hate that Alexei has gotten on this board the past two days is sickening. He's been on fire with the bat, and made enough non routine plays to make up for his brain cramps. If Alexei doesn't homer today maybe the mental midget that is Zambrano throws a shut out. Not to mention he tied yesterdays game for us. Really with our bench options benching Alexei's bat is a stupid, deal with the defense while he is hitting like this. If I recall Cubano has said Alexei played mostly CF and 2B in cuba so this is basically his first full year at SS let alone at SS in MLB. Like I said earlier/in the other thread/wherever...the problem with Alexei right now is that lately he's had a rash of these. We had a good 10 game errorless stretch earlier this year, although there were some fielding mistakes, they're really coming in bunches right now. Maybe some of it has to do with a newbie at 3b, maybe some of it is a lack of focus, whatever. Right now, what we're seeing is intolerable; it's costing us runs. A lot. I wouldn't mind a message being sent if he keeps this performance up on the field, ditto for other guys, but we need to see improvement starting now towards the end of the season, because right now we're trending the wrong direction, and that's a trend that can't continue. It just infuriates me when people with so much talent blow it because they're too lazy, too scared, too cocky, whatever the case may be. Alexei definitely needs a wake up call, and perhaps another couple game stint with Nix at SS will provide at least a little bit of a wake up call like it did a couple months ago. greg775
Farmer and Jackson have been all over Ramirez today, calling him "lost" on how to turn the double play. I hope Farmer and Jackson also praised the s*** out of Alexei for his incredible series at the plate. If they didn't slobber over the hitting part of his game, then something's wrong.
