chisoxfan09
Howdi all, glad the site is back and yes it is a vice we needed and missed. I also hit refresh quite few times. Glad to see it back. Poreda has looked really good with control and pitch placement in his first 2-3 relief appearances capped by his first win last night. His fastball last night was consistent low 90's but I did not see him rearing back for something extra. His first strike out last was actually on what appeared to be a down and in slider or off speed (Experts please correct me). It had good movement and really fooled the batter. I think the development of his secondary pitches may be one of the main reasons they brought him up (To work with Coop essentially). But from what I have seen in 4.2 innings of work (6K's/1 BB) the ration is good so far. I think he has a future but not sure if whether as a reliever or starter. I think he will eventually have better stuff than Richard and more velocity and movement on the fastball. What sayeth my fellow fans? He has potential to become a 3rd or 4th starter, he needs to develop more movement on his balls. Most of his ball are straight fastballs or offspeed. After the second time around, lineups will read it better and begin to hit him, thats what we have been seeing out of Richard lately. I'd say as of right now, Richard is a tremendous 2-3 inning long man/ spot starter. Give him sometime in the AFL and Spring Training to add some pitches to his arsinal with movement and he can be very good one day. Poreda looks pretty impressive so far. It looks like he has a deadly fast ball, a sinking slider and a pretty decent change up that he locates very well. I say as of right now, Poreda has more weapons than Richard. Richard is more stretched out than Poreda, but this is a great way to get AP's feet wet. Buerhle did it as well in 2000. If I could put money on it (pending if he isn't traded), i'd say Poreda makes the starting rotation out of spring training next year. He is going to be a very very good pitcher in this league for many years.
thedoctor
i'd be curious to hear jpn's thoughts on how poreda is throwing vs. how he threw in birmingham.
chisoxfan09
i'd be curious to hear jpn's thoughts on how poreda is throwing vs. how he threw in birmingham. Yeah I am kinda waiting for JPN to let us know his view on Poreada's performance so far in the bigs VS. BHam. And a good indicator or actually stat in Poreda's favor is that he has done well at the Cell so far which is a friendly hitter's park. NOt many appearances grant it but so far so good. If he gets 3 really solid pitches man I am gonna be ecstatic. He did pretty well last night against the best team in the bigs to date but maybe that is not as great sounding as it appears. Dunno but to me it is great!!!
BearSox
I wouldn't mind letting Richard skip a start and get some more rest and recovery time and let Poreda start in his place 1 time.
ThunderBolt
Got to write this real quick (in a lobby of a hotel on vacation) very happy to hear about another White Sox series win, but even happier to hear about Poreda’s first MLB win. Hopefully, this is not only the first of many but the first step In establishing trust with Ozzie.
elrockinMT
I know the Sox are taking it easy with Poreda, but I am anxious to see him start. Clayton has been less than good the last several starts
Chisoxfn
I think it is good that Poreda is getting his feet wet in the pen. I also think Poreda still has some things to work on before he jumps into the rotation and I think Richard will get things figured out. In Poreda's case I expect him to be in the rotation if the Sox move one of there other pitchers, notably Contreras. However, they aren't falling out of contention so they might hold onto Count and at that point it will be one of Richard/Poreda that is in the rotation with the other in the pen. I still think its a good idea to give Poreda a bit more time in the pen.
